Just declined MICA - Hoffberger's offer, so I assume a spot will be opening up.

What would be your primary reason/s, if you don't mind sharing.
Carnegie Mellon has an excellent reputation and is one of the top private research institutions in the world. They have an unlimited amount of resources and world class faculty. I like that it is a three year program and that there is a strong emphasis on not only the conceptual component of craft but making work that is socially and culturally relevant.

Carnegie Mellon all the way!

Accepted to MICA-Hoffberger School of Painting via phone call this afternoon!

Hey does anyone here know much about Boston University's painting program?
It just seems like a lot of people haven't applied to this program?
I was also accepted to BU this week! The MFA Painting program at BU has a very strong reputation and from the research I've done, is held in pretty high regard amongst "painter's painters" and academics although it does fly a little under the radar. The program is very rigorous and studio intensive. They have distinguished faculty including John Walker who is their current department head. Other notable faculty include Dushko Petrovich (also teaches at Yale and RISD), Hugh O'Donnell, Richard Ryan, and Gideon Bok. Also Brice Marden is an alum which is pretty cool although some would say he honed his sensitivities at Yale.
John Walker is known to be pretty hands on and often invites his first year MFA students to his property in Maine to paint plein air. From what I understand, the studios are large and the resources/facilities are excellent. Another huge plus is that their tuition is much lower than other MFA programs at other comparable private institutions. You also have the option to study at their campus in Venice, Italy for 6 weeks during the summer.
As you can tell, BU was my first choice and I'm very excited for the fall!

Anyone hear from SAIC painting yet? From last years results, it looks like letters are sent via mail.
-
I was accepted to Boston University via email this afternoon! So excited!!!

Accepted to Boston university today via email! No funding offered but still exciting.
Also waitlisted at New York Academy of Art today via email
Congratulations! BU is one of my top picks! Haven't heard from them yet.
-
Also I snooped last years and someone was accepted around the 10th via postal mail for painting/drawing . Makes sense due to the size of the program (double some of the others)
Got it thank you. Do you know how many they accept? Anxiously awaiting a reply from SAIC, MICA, and Boston.

I got into Yale School of Art!!!
Congratulations, that is very exciting! It also appears you have interviews/have been accepted to other top programs. Would also enjoy seeing your work.
-
Just to confirm, no one has heard from SAIC Painting/Drawing yet correct?
-
I GOT INTO SAIC !! Oli was the one to call me too he was my favorite faculty on my panel !
derp (ha), if I got in i KNOW you will too !!
congrats! what discipline did you apply to?

I was doing really well as far as curbing my nerves for saic up till tonight...Eeeek, tomorrow will probably be even worse!
You hear anything from SAIC yet? Anxiously waiting for a phone call. Really like your portfolio btw. good luck!

Anyone hear anything from SAIC Sculpture today? Or any of the SAIC departments?
Nothing yet. I interviewed with the Painting dept on Sunday. I think it well but you never know...
-
That's around the size I'm bringing. I would assume it's fine as long as it's not cumbersome to bring in/set up/display
Sounds good. Forum members still meeting after the event tonight?

30x 24 inches ? Seems on the smaller scale to me[/quote
Oh I agree, completely manageable but didn't want to attract any strange looks from other students, interviewees, and faculty. Just being paranoid

Preparing for SAIC interview tomorrow. My paintings are 30x24 in size. do you think they are too large to bring with? I know they project your portfolio and encourage you to bring smaller works if possible. Thanks and good luck to everyone else!
-
Rejected as well. MICA interview is this afternoon and SAIC on Sunday. Looks like someone last year heard back from Boston painting on the 27th of February so...
-
Nice!! Congratulations! What discipline?
-
Hey NicolasR1031, that's a bummer about Rutgers. Just wanted to tell you that I think your paintings are awesome! They remind me of Jake Berthot and John Walker.
Thank you! Both Walker and Berthot are influences of mine. Hoping to hear back from Boston soon. John Walker is the department head there and I really like their program. From what I understand he is pretty hands on and it would be a unique opportunity.

All you need is one saic and mica (I went to mica for undergrad) are great programs and getting interviews to both is something to take pride in
You are correct, I have to keep things in perspective. It only takes one. I appreciate the support. I'm excited for the SAIC event this weekend.

Trying to remain positive. I have interviews with SAIC and MICA- Hoffberger this week. Still waiting on Hunter and Boston. I am assuming rejection from both RISD and Columbia but have not been officially notified.
