  1. Ya it can be for some things, but specifically in NYC it is the top way to find apartments. Brokers post most of their apartments on there, so it could be a lot more difficult if you don't use it. If you find an ad about people looking for a roommate (which I have done before) and you are worried, just ask them if you can meet up at Starbucks or something first.
  2. @espressomonster, you should definitely call or email, I emailed them about the exact same thing and that same day I got an interview invite.
  3. Craigslist! I am from NYC and the vast majority of apartments for rent/people looking for roommates are listed on craigslist. I have found so many nice places through brokers posting on craigslists and also people searching for an extra roommate in their apartment. It's the only way to go!
  4. Congrats SSK! Just be yourself and be relaxed. I think they just want to see how you react with others.
  5. Gotcha. Thank you. Yes Hunter is exponentially cheaper and an amazing program!
  6. I've been told that they focus a lot on therapy and schools of thought as opposed to social justice and at risk populations. However this is just what I have been told. My mom went to NYU. They are well-known for their clinical approach and program. Would you mind sharing when you were accepted to Hunter and when you had your interview?
  7. I think Hunter carries just as much prestige in the NY area, if not more than both Columbia and NYU. However, internationally and throughout the country Columbia and NYU are more well-known. I think it depends what you want to do. If you want to be a therapist and have your own practice, NYU is probably your best best. If you're not sure and super concerned about the money (because let's face it, we're probably not going to be millionaires to say the least! ) I am terrified of loans and Hunter has such a good rep in all areas of the field.
  8. every list is different! Some have Ann Arbor, WashU, U. Chicago, Berkeley. I can go on!
  9. @rrrrolo, I feel your pain, I completed by app on 10/21, and they JUST called me for an interview last week. They take forever!
  10. To the person who got accepted to Hunter MSW: When did you have your interview?
  11. @puravida check the online portal and see if you have a status update.
  12. Also, if you applied to the Manhattan campus, you're going to get a lot of older (as in not right out of undergrad) students who are living in NYC, trying to make it work. The garden city campus in Long Island will probably have more students coming right out of college.
  13. I was accepted at Adephi too! The only thing that gets me about the program is that it's not a very well-known name (throughout the country that is), and it's pretty expensive. Fordham, for instance, has the same type of price tag, but least you get the name recognition for the price. On the other hand, I do know that it is a good program and pretty well-respected in the NY social work world. Definitely a good option for the new york area if you've been accepted .
  14. Has anyone that interviewed heard back yet?
  15. Honestly Sum_1... Clearly my experience is just as valuable as a high GPA... I struggled with a lot of emotional issues in college, got my shit together and still got into an ivy league grad school. I do know how to write a paper, and actually am an exceptional writer. Probably half the reason I got in was due to my personal statement. Sorry, I don't mean to be obnoxious and I never would be otherwise, hence the reason I thought I would share my GPA to give others hope. I thought this was a safe space. So quit your immature whining! Thank you everyone else for being so supportive throughout the process and I TRULY do wish everyone the best of luck!!
  16. Im in! 2.5 gpa. 2 yrs working in homeless services case manager at a shelter in Manhattan. Dont let GPA and regrets from college stop u from your dreams!!!
  17. @espressomonster, yes, I got the email on Thursday 2/19, and I had the option to have my interview on Monday, Feb 23-March 9. So shortly after you receive the email you'll have the chance to interview.
  18. Thank you @ssk14. @rad1993, it takes them forever to change the online portal system... so they probably have everything they need, they just haven't put it online yet.
  19. I think they come out once a day and its at 530ish new york time. So here's to waiting until tomorrow after work! -__-
  20. congrats @jalapeno_bagel!!
  21. Has anyone that has already had an interview's status changed from pending interview? Mine still says it after 2 days which worries me.
  22. i have a feeling today's the day!
  23. so March 1 is on a Sunday... which means they MUST let us know today, tomorrow, or Friday!! So close people!
  24. @mswgal and @jalapeno_bagel, the interview was really relaxed, there was 7 of us plus the interviewer. The questions were pretty simple and straight forward. I was pretty nervous regardless because I am just a nervous person lol, and I'm not really sure how it went. I really think it could go either way for me. But we'll see. The questions were about expectations of grad school, why hunter, what constructive criticism you have experienced in the field, and just overall your experience thus far in social work. There was also a writing sample and it talked about social welfare implications of police harassment in a certain community and the steps they are taking to address it.
