  1. I'm applying for Higher Education programs in the Fall as well. I'm interested to know how competitive the programs are, particularly ones that offer full funding. I have a 3.8 cumulative GPA and I have a little over a year of experience working as the I-20 Coordinator for International Services and the Assistant Supervisor for Circulation and Reserves at my university. It doesn't look like any of my programs require the GRE. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
  2. As the summer gets closer I'm wondering if any past participant can give me an idea of how much I can expect to get from the stipend. Also is it a single payment before the program or multiple payments during the program? Thanks!
  3. Thanks Maghreb! I am crossing my fingers for you! I have been checking this page and the CLS Facebook page quite frequently and I haven't seen any other alternates say that they have been promoted, so I am not sure. The Study Abroad Advisor at my university told me that she spoke to some people from CLS at a conference this past week, and they said that first round promotions for people on the waitlist were to be notified the week of March 23, or very soon thereafter. I hope you make it off the waitlist, best of luck!!
  4. I just found out today that I got selected as a finalist!!! I can't believe I actually moved off of the waitlist, I had basically lost all hope. I am going to Bangladesh this summer......words cannot describe my excitement
  5. Hey everyone! I just got an email, I only got selected as an alternate. Congratulations to everyone who made it through!
  6. I know many people may already be aware of this, but for those of you who are not, I contacted the office this afternoon, and the woman on the phone told me that their was some sort of delay and the notifications had to be pushed back. As a result, she said that finalists will be notified by the end of February; I asked if that meant by this Friday and she told me that it did. So, it looks like we will be notified either tomorrow or Friday. Good luck everyone, the wait is almost over!
  7. I was certain we would hear something yesterday or today! Needless to say, I was wrong...Crossing my fingers for tomorrow
  8. Hildewijch, from what I understand they would like you to respond back asap, as to whether you would like to accept the scholarship or not. However, I know that after you accept, you can decline at a later date if you can no longer attend. I have heard of people making it off of the waiting list as late as two weeks before the program begins.
  9. Congrats DTY! I hope you hear good news! I am a semifinalist for Bangla, and I am getting pretty anxious as well. Since this is my first time applying I was not too sure what to expect, so I am thankful just to have made it this far. From browsing around past CLS forums, it looks like the latest date applicants have heard in past years was February 25, with the earliest being February 15. If they stick to this trend we should hear very soon! May the odds be ever in our favor
  10. I received an email this afternoon! I am a semifinalist for the Beginning Bangla program! I am so excited that I made it to the next round. I think I read in another forum that after the first round, applicants have an approx. 50% chance of being selected as a finalist!
  11. I applied for beginning! I am definitely jealous that you already know some Bangla. I really want to be fluent in it, but my college does not offer it, so I am hoping the program can be my starting point. It's my first time applying, so I am a little nervous, but I hope we both hear good newsas well! If not, there is always next year
  12. danng, awesome! Which level did you apply for?
  13. Thank you for sharing your experience! January cannot come soon enough. Best of luck to you!
  14. Hi laowhy! That must have been such an amazing experience to travel to China, I would love to travel to Asia one day! I found it so difficult to figure out the ideal applicant for the scholarship. It seems like they look at so many different things; it is really hard to pinpoint a single one. What do you believe was one of the main reasons you were accepted (and your classmates as well) to the Chinese program?
  15. I have been hoping someone would start one of these to quell some of my anxieties! Which language did you apply for? I applied for Bangla!
