Hi, I'm in my last year of my SLP program, so I need health insurance for one more year. I've had insurance through work and then switched over to my school's policy, but this year my program is charging more than $4000 for their policy. This is too expensive as it's $1000 more than the previous year. I started my application through the health insurance marketplace and it says I'm eligible for medicaid based on income information. Has anyone opted for medicaid, and can discuss the pros/cons? I know there is a stigma with choosing medicaid, but beyond that are there any actual downsides to choosing this option?

You have to check with the schools you are applying to. These are definitely ASHA requirements, and some schools do not require you to complete them before accepting you into the program. I was accepted at Montclair State and NYU and I was missing the physical science requirement, plus most of my program prereqs.

Just found another one I might switch to this since I'm still iffy about BYU https://rcde.usu.edu/coursesearch/results.cfm?q=&classroom=false&blended=false It's Utah State University online, and the intro to chem course is about $900 which is around $400 more but seems more legit since ASHA specifies physics or chem and I don't want anything affecting my ability to get my license. I don't know if chem is a better choice than physics but I hated physics in high school and did well in chemistry.

Yeah my orientation is tomorrow and I'm a bit nervous , I haven't bought my books, yet planning on it this week.

I literally just finished signing up for https://is.byu.edu/description/PHYS-100-M001 I searched the forum for suggestions and found it. It's around $549 for the course, cheaper than other online classes and less of a hassle to sign up. The other schools I was looking into made registering for one class such a process. Also, I just want to get this requirement out of the way without having to waste 6 hours going in person to my local community college since this is my first semester of my grad program, and still trying to work while I can. I really hope it is not a scam and ASHA takes it. I emailed my advisor about it and she said it looks ok. But you can never be too sure :/ . They give you a year to finish the course and you have to get a proctor to watch you complete both midterm and final exams, which sort of makes it feel a little bit more legit I guess. Btw I can't believe I graduated without ever taking a physical science course, I felt lucky at the time never thought I would need one.

It'd be a coincidence if we ended up at the same state school...., I really was looking forward to attending the first school this fall...um did some poking around...yep I guess we'll be in the same cohort! And yep home ownership was a biggie for me too! Starting to feel a little better that this decision is the right choice. I was just really concerned academics at the cheaper school were going to be sub par. I really want to receive good training so I know what I'm doing once I'm graduating.

So I've read everyone's responses and I'm leaning towards accepting the second school, but has anyone withdrawn their acceptance? Is this frowned upon, and would it be harder than just sending an email to the first school telling them that I'm withdrawing my place in the program?

I'm living at home no matter which program I attend, my first choice is an hour commute by public transport into NY and the second is 20 min by car. Aside from rankings, I feel like I'd get a better quality education at my first choice, their electives and info in general sounds more appealing than the second. I'm borrowing for both schools, but I will be keeping a job with a salary of around $20 grand while I attend either program. The job is mainly weekends and not too stressful. I just don't want to regret this decision, $30 grand can be a down-payment for a condo, than again will my chances at getting a job with a great salary be affected by my choice? I know job prospects are good, but does school prestige factor into what type of job I'd get and therefore my eventual salary? I really am at a loss.

I've recently been accepted off the waitlist from a school that would be around $30,000 cheaper than the school that I've already accepted and paid the deposit for. I really want to attend my first choice (which is higher ranked by about 100 spots) but the price difference is a huge consideration. Has anyone changed their decision this late? Any advice for moving forward?

You received a financial aid package already? has anyone else heard about funding?

Has everyone committed to NYU? I'm most likely going to attend but want to wait for the response for one more school, if I continue to wait is there a chance that although I am accepted all slots will be taken? I've heard about getting "locked out" is that really a thing?

Has anyone set up one for NYU?

When and how did you hear back from Montclair?

The job outlook is what worries me. In this economy, I'm always wary of believing that anything, even a master's will guarantee a job so taking on loans for tens of thousands of dollars is a scary thought. But like some of you have mentioned there is no guarantee that trying to apply in another year would bring about acceptances at a more affordable school :/

No I haven't but I'm not too hopeful funding is going to be any help :/

How is everyone paying for school, does it make financial sense to wait to apply another year and see if you might obtain an acceptance with funding or attend a school that has accepted you with no financial aid? Is taking out all loans a risk worth taking?

Yeah I can't take off work either : ( , so I might have to skip it too bad they can't have two days to give people options on what date to attend.

People have begun posting that they've been accepted through email today, I guess rejections come after : (

I'm trying not to be this whole process just takes way too long. When I called the woman said they would send out decisions by mid-March so she said we should be looking out for them next week, good luck everyone!

Oh ok yeah I just called and they said the same thing, I wonder if the ppl we speak to at admissions can see a decision and don't say anything unless it's an acceptance. I didn't leave the conversation too hopeful : (.

I received an email saying to apply to housing from for Summer 2016 and Fall 2016, but no call or letter...did anyone else get something like that?

It's making me a bit anxious since their first wave already received acceptances, and the number of remaining spots is lower. That extra business about the award notification on the tuportal isn't helping things either lol.
