Any Columbia MSW hopefuls?
asdghasdghsjdgas replied to socialworkette's topic in Social Workers Forum
it looks like it was one of the international students, since there is an "I" next to the posting. i'm impatient too!!!! -
i also received my letter with two scholarships, one for $800 per year (the Book scholarship) and one for $10,000 per year (for admitted social work students). I believe quite a few people are receiving these, and that we're still waiting to hear back about other scholarships we applied for (such as those due by the Jan 5 deadline). Apparently if we receive these additional scholarships, we may have our initial scholarships revoked? At least according to the letter.

there's now a link at the top of the admissions page that says "information for admitted students"..... which likely means that we'll be hearing very soon. -
@caitdownie it's the just underneath this one

I received the same email! It made my heart jump out of my chest There is a PDF on the MSW admissions page with updates saying that early decision applicants will hear back by the end of February while people who applied to the regular deadline will hear back by the end of March.

UW MSW Fall 2015 Applicants
asdghasdghsjdgas replied to asdghasdghsjdgas's topic in Social Workers Forum
Yeah when I did a results search it did look like all the acceptances happened in March. I looked at the UW website and the PDF they posted with announcements said that people who applied by the dec 1 deadline would hear back in February. Maybe that means late February, but I'm still nervous!! -
Didn't see a topic for UW, and honestly it's my number one choice right now. Has anyone heard anything back yet? I applied for the day program by the dec 1 deadline, hoping to concentrate in community-centered integrative practice.

University of Michigan MSW Applicants

did anyone else apply for one of the GSSA positions? i submitted my resume and cover letter for the student services role yesterday around 12 PM and i'm already overanalyzing that they'll see it negatively that i sent everything in on the day it was due :'( -
Anyone hear from UW-Seattle yet?
asdghasdghsjdgas replied to KristiBoom's topic in Social Workers Forum
nope, but i'm pretty sure it's my top choice so i'm anxiously awaiting an answer! i also applied to the 2 year day program and got my application in by the dec 1 deadline -
So I got the news on Friday night that I have been admitted to the USC MSW program for Fall 2015 with a couple of scholarships. I was incredibly excited, until I noticed in the email that it says I applied to the Nov. 3 early decision deadline and will need to accept the admittance by 1/30/15... but I definitely applied to the Dec. 8 priority deadline, which is reflected in the timestamp on my application. Should I call admissions about this? I would really like some more time to think about whether or not USC is definitely where I want to go (especially since I'm still waiting to hear back from 3 schools!).
-
so I received an acceptance from USC as well, but I'm a little confused because it says on the acceptance email that I applied to the nov 3 deadline even though I definitely didn't submit my application until dec 1. I should call, right? especially since they want me to make a decision by 1/30 and I was not prepared to do that
-
I also just got accepted to Michigan!! SO EXCITED! First acceptance of the season.
-
does anyone know if UIC will also be updating applications to reflect their complete status anytime soon? didn't know if they're on the same timeline as UIUC.
-
when did y'all apply to michigan? and did they send you an email with your uniqname when you applied?
-
MSW stat check in - what are you applying with?
asdghasdghsjdgas replied to Read_books's topic in Social Workers Forum
feeling VERY nervous in this area since i've never been too sure about how much experience looks "impressive" on an MSW application. had a 3.58 undergraduate GPA, no GRE (none of the schools i'm applying to require it), 2 years doing peer facilitation/event coordinating for the campus gender and sexuality center, about 6-8 months of grassroots/political organizing experience, and some smattering of volunteer experience at the regional domestic & sexual violence shelter (hotline/house staff). i also have a LOR from a social work professor that i worked closely with/studied under, my supervisor at the gender and sexuality center, and a professor from my undergrad major (which was theatre & dance). my personal statement revolves around my research interests, which focus on domestic & sexual violence in transgender communities since i have little experience with the graduate school process, i'm not terribly sure where my credentials land in the bell curve, but i hope i get accepted somewhere!! -
also applying for fall 2015 at USC, UMich, Columbia, UIC, and UW. UW and USC are my top choices, and i submitted all of my applications for the early consideration/priority deadlines (dec 1). it hasn't been that long and the waiting is already killing me :'(

The Student Services GSSA position offered to the matriculated fall 2015 MSW class sounds perfect for me and would take a huge burden off of me financially, so I want to make sure that my cover letter/resume are spot on. Do you think that it would be appropriate to submit a CV for this type of job, or would a 1 page resume be better? Also, does anyone who has gotten a position like this have any advice for someone who is applying? Dos/don'ts? Thanks so much!!!
