  1. Those are actually pretty different concentrations, are you more into science/data analysis/math kind of thing? That's Epi. Health promotion is more working with health education programs, outreach, community organizations, etc. I find them to be different so I think you should read up on both.
  2. Wow you're still waiting? When did you apply? I got accepted in January, applied in December. What concentration did you apply to?
  3. Well I can tell you I've accepted BU's offer! Definitely pick something that you love and you're going to enjoy!
  4. Hello all, I made this post specifically for everyone who has accepted their admission offer to BOSTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH! I submitted mine today! Super excited! I wanted to put this together so we know what the next steps are, housing, etc. Just a space to help each other out on this new adventure! I have a question: Does anyone know where they will be living? Graduate housing? Apts? Any good, CHEAP places to look at?
  5. They are pretty different concentrations, what do you love to do more? I got into BU for Maternal and Child Health also!
  6. Did you interview for UNC's MCH program?
  7. They were actually pretty quick. Took no longer than a week to get my package from BU. Plus all the extra emails they've been sending. They're on their game! The chair of the department I applied to sent a personalized email asking me what professor's research I'm interested in so they can get me in contact with them. Pretty nice!
  8. I'm definitely also experiencing all that Texas glitch stuff. I was accepted 3 weeks ago and still no package.
  9. Haven't heard anything in almost a month. This SUCKS. I just want to know so I can start making my decision and plans. Ahhhh
  10. Why must this waiting be so painfully brutal..

  11. I thought it would be nice to start a thread on BEST/WORST acceptance packages. I know some schools mail fancy packages, while other merely send you a letter. This is meant to be a fun thread. Also, maybe best/worst rejection letters? I know rejection letters suck, but some are more thoughtful than others... I'll start with Boston, red folder with the simple words "You're in." in the front. That was kind of nice.
  12. Would you recommend Boston? Besides the cost of living there? I did my undergrad at UC Berkeley and really liked the culture/diversity.
  13. Anyone heard back from Columbia yet? And when did you get verified?
  14. AGREED. I ALWAYS have questions ready to ask. It shows that you're interested and have actually took the time to learn about the program.
  15. Anyone apply to Berkeley or Columbia?
  16. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knew what schools have top programs for the Maternal and Child Health concentration? I have been trying to search this but I've had no luck. Thanks!
  17. I don't know about your chances but you basically have to wait for people to reject their acceptances to Emory which may take a while to hear back from them since people usually wait on all their schools to start rejecting schools they have been accepted to. At least you didn't get rejected though. Emory is a top school so you should be proud of that. If you don't mind me asking, what concentration did you apply yo?
  18. The work you are doing is very Public Health oriented so I would encourage you to apply to the MPH program. I am an Americorps member as well, I had a undergrad GPA of 2.98 and my GRE scores we pretty low, math at the 50th percent and Verbal below 50; but I've managed to get into 3 schools! Your GPA will make up for your GRE scores, public health schools are not very strict about GRE scores. As for the stats class, I wouldn't know how horrible it is; but with any MPH program, you are required to take stats.
  19. Let me shine some light in your life! I had low GRE scores, verbal was below 50th percentile, math was right at the 50th. My GPA was 2.98. I'm an Americorps member, had a few research and health internships during undergrad. I've been acceped to 2 schools already! I honestly doubted myself throughout the whole process because my GRE and GPA are very low but I think my essays and passion for public health shined through!
  20. @HealthMatters EVERY email I get I'm hoping it's a decision email... sigh. This. is. killing. me. slowly.
  21. I can't take this silence!

  22. I applied to Hopkins, but for an MSPH not an MPH, so I didn't apply through SOPHAS. I applied directly through their website.
