  1. Hey Guys, I don't know too much, but I applied for a bunch of programs last application cycle and am now in grad school for comm at Stanford. Feel free to ask me if you have any specific questions!
  2. A big part of any journalism application is going to be your portfolio. Typically, portfolio pieces go hand in hand with major aspects of your resume. So when you intern with the local paper and write a piece about the depth in the secondary, your time there goes on your resume and your article goes in your portfolio. So to build both, you just need to get involved somewhere. Anywhere is better than nowhere. Journalistic research looks good on resumes and can produce some great clips, but it can be kind of hard to come by. My interests are diverse, but one of them is tech journalism, so I applied to work in a Drone Journalism lab at my university. It was a great experience. Any time you can be writing for a real audience (like the school paper, a special blog, or anything like that) will be good. You need to be active on social media and show that you are continuing to follow the news and produce thought provoking reactions, even if it's just a couple of tweets. A lot of journalism interviews start with "Where do you get your news?" and that type of question. Just be aware of news around you. That was rambling and probably redundant, but I hope it helps! Feel free to pm me if you have any more specific questions.
  3. officially accepted my offer to Stanford!
  4. I had a great visit to Stanford and officially accepted my offer! Thanks to all for your encouragement and insight. I wish you all the very best!
  5. I was offered a very similar package to pretensions!
  6. Not yet! I'm visiting Stanford this week though, and I feel that it's a pretty heavy favorite. We shall see.
  7. Nope! I have no idea what the funding is like. Guessing not too great.
  8. I remit my complaint....I received an acceptance email today from NYU!
  9. TEN DAYS??!?! haha that still seems like forever at this point, considering we have about 20 days to decide and tell everyone!
  10. Depending on funding, it may be up there. Stanford is my top choice right now, and then USC.
  11. Seriously! The clock is ticking guys. I'm trying to respect my other programs' offers but this is getting pretty late.
  12. Absolutely! I've been in contact with Dan and I'm going to have lunch with him on my visit! haha I can't wait to get out there and just see everything. =D Any progress on your decision?
  13. Well, I only applied to Stanford because data journalism is my thing. I'm headed out for a visit in 2 weeks so I'll know more then. I think all three choices are solid, but for me, I Stanford is the clear choice. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like NW and Columbia have larger classes. All amazing. Can't go wrong.
