  1. Thanks! I've been very lucky throughout this process. I've been to Wichita a fair amount of times, my mother is from there and a lot of family still lives in the town. I may be biased but...it's just not as fun as KC/Lawrence. You could definitely have fun there and enjoy the program if you decide to go to Wichita State, obviously the experience will be what you make it. But it is more of a conservative, smaller, less urban town. Just depends on what kind of place you prefer and which program fits you best! Let me know if you have any other questions, and you can always PM me as well!
  2. The professors on the Lawrence campus (from what I have experienced) are great! I formed great relationships with them as an undergrad and they were always very open and supportive. Obviously not every professor is going to be your favorite person and there are some at KU that I didn't LOVE, but 9/10 times they were awesome. I would definitely say they are helpful. On the Lawrence campus there is a mostly pediatric focus. I did a practicum last semester and worked with a birth to three program, and there are lots of opportunities in schools and also child clients in the clinic. The KU med campus has some pediatric placements as well but I don't know as much about them. There are adult opportunities on both campuses as well, but definitely more adults and medical opportunities on the KU med campus. As an Master's student you'll most likely have placements on both campuses, depending on the semester. They did mention a few funding options. There are two grants KU has right now that provide some funding and some other assistantship positions...you can check them out here -http://www.kumc.edu/school-of-health-professions/ipcd/speech-language-pathology-(ma)/tuition-and-costs/scholarships-and-financial-assistance.html
  3. Hi! I can't tell you much about Wichita State, but I am attending KU as an undergrad right now, and am considering the grad program. I actually just attended the open house day. KU really is a great program! The MA program takes place on both the Lawrence and KU Med campus (which is in Kansas City, about 45 minutes away from Lawrence). There is a clinic on both campuses, and lots of medical opportunities at KU med. There are some really unique opportunities there, like the awesome AAC lab in Lawrence, and special practicum placements with ALS and Parkinsons patients. Both Lawrence and Kansas City are great places to live as well! Lawrence is much more of a "college town" feel, and KC has a bigger city feel. Students are pretty split between the two campuses in where they live I think, it's just a personal preference. If you have any specific questions about KU I can try to answer them!
  4. Hey guys! I visited the program today and LOVED it. Dr. Stillman is seriously so kind and welcoming, and all of the students seemed so passionate about the program. Dr. Stillman told they work really hard to make sure students don't feel super overwhelmed because it is a better learning environment and they want students to be able to have lives outside of school. It's definitely one of my top choices at this point!! If anyone has any specific questions about my visit or what I asked them about I am happy to answer!
  5. Thanks for the insight, Schatzie15! I am visiting them this weekend so it's really encouraging to hear how much you liked it. UTD is one of the few schools that offered aid right off the bat for me, and it's awesome that students can balance working alongside schoolwork/practicums. UTD is really starting to become a strong option for me. Did you happen to hear if anyone talked about bilingualism specialization at all?
  6. Does anyone know how much funding they normally give out? I would love to attend here but it's difficult to just take the chance and end up paying a lot more than I could be at other schools...
  7. I am using Care.com to find nanny positions for the summer! It will definitely help prepare me for therapy preparation (like using a kid's interests to develop activities) and interacting with kids more than waiting tables would, and honestly it pays pretty well.
  8. I was also just offered admission to Northwestern and am being considered for a merit-based scholarship. I wonder if anyone actually got financial aid outright?
  9. I highly doubt it would change the status of your application if you emailed them haha but I would try and hold off for a couple days before asking the department since only one person posted an acceptance. Sometimes it takes a couple hours/days for all acceptances to go out. I totally understand the anxiety though, waiting is the worst!!
  10. Linda_P, I have not heard from Northwestern yet, this post was referring to CU Boulder. However, Northwestern sent out an email a few weeks ago saying they would send decisions out by March 18th. Thank you and good luck to you!
  11. Onena - Thank you! I've been very very lucky throughout this process. I only applied to Master's programs. I definitely have some tough decisions ahead. I think I will probably wait until I have information from everywhere I applied, including financial info etc. and then compare which school seems to be the best fit for my interests! Good luck to you!!
  12. Anyone else's anxiety levels shooting up about UT Austin this week, or is it just me? Last year they sent decisions on March 7th!
  13. No, I'm from Kansas so I'm just one state off of what's considered "western" haha. Ah well.
  14. Does anyone know how funding works for CU? The website says that funding letters go with decision letters, and there is no additional application but I haven't seen anyone mention any funding yet.
  15. onedayslp, I got this too! I was very confused, and then a little bit later I got an email with a decision letter saying I was accepted!!! Definitely made my day. No mention of funding though...on their website they said funding letters accompany decision letters so does this mean I didn't receive funding? Hmm.
  16. mohammadsalehiyan, phaedra is right, try this one -http://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/32-engineering/. There are different sections of the forum for each field of study!
  17. This link may be useful - http://csd.syr.edu/_pdfs_CSD/Background_requirements_slp.pdf It is for a specific grad program but the information is general about most programs and what classes are required. I believe most schools will have different requirements about taking some classes before/during their program, so it would be best to verify with your school what they prefer.
  18. I did use snail mail for UTD. However, I did send one or two via "secure PDF" from my undergrad institution, which I thought may be what Schatzie15 was referring to. But thank you! It is definitely a relief, even though it's making me that much more anxious about hearing back from other schools too. This process is so nerve wracking.
  19. I sent mine in early December via USPS. I had 3 separate transcripts being sent (undergrad institution + 2 community colleges I earned credit through in high school) so I was pretty nervous about all of them getting there and tried to send them in early. I had everything uploaded in early January except for my SOP, and I uploaded the SOP in early February (4th or 5th maybe?). I got an email from Dr. Stillman with an offer of admission last Friday evening My Galaxy portal status did not change for a few more days though.
  20. Chandru1, some schools (mine included) allow official transcripts to be sent via email. A "secure" message is sent, meaning that the school itself emails the transcript, and a password (provided by the school) is needed to access the transcript from the email. Or something like that, I don't completely understand. I sent some of my transcripts this way and it appeared to work.
