  1. Good luck to everyone who wish to attend MSW in 2016, here is the unofficial stats for 2015 MSW admission in three Toronto universities that offer MSW program( based others estimation only, not confirmed with school authorities, I don't hold responsibility for the accuracy of this data . don't PM me about where I get the numbers from  )

U of T,  acceptance rate 1 in 11 for two years program, 1 in 4 for one year program (both full time and part time)

York,  acceptance rate 1 in 28 for two years program, 1 in 2.5 for one year program (both full time and part time)

Ryerson, acceptance rate 1 in 4  for one year program (Full time)

Hi, YWEANG, thank you for starting this new thread and thanks for sharing the stats. I applied for U of T's two-year MSW program last year and got wait listed. My background is different but I have been trying to gain related experience as a volunteer and have been reading books and articles. I am going to apply again this year. Good luck to everyone!

  2. I opened my letter this morning and learned that I have been waitlisted for U of T's two-year MSW, I am pretty excited as this is my first time applying . I have been expecting a rejection letter after I read about how competitive this program is and how many excellent candidates there are. Making it to the wait-list is encouraging for me to reapply for next year. I plan to take some online course to boost my GPA and also plan to gain more experience as a volunteer. I have learned a lot on this forum. Just want to say thank you to everyone for being supportive to each other! Good luck to everyone who is still waiting!

  3. I honestly held my breath so hard last week that I was blue in the face. This week I have a totally new perspective. I have told myself not to expect anything until at least April. I was so so distracted last week by checking this forum and checking ROSI that I had a hard time getting things done. I am two weeks out until my undergrad is DONE, I need to end with a bang. In terms of plan B, I would definitely find a job in my field (Child and Youth studies, so something in child and youth worker, etc.) as well as volunteer in as many organizations as possible. For example, the children advocacy centre in Niagara, the Sexual assault hotline, etc.

If we did hear something this week, It would be a nice little surprise, but again, I have given up holding my breath.

Me too! I procrastinated my work and had such a bad temper last week. I have decided only check my rosi or SGS once a day this week. Hopefully I can get more of my work done and calm down a little bit. Good luck to everyone!

  4. hey guys,

I couldn't hold back my excitement this morning when I found this thread still going on and involving lots of people sharing common situations - maybe more fellows joining in, and more in-time information flow. Oddly I didn't feel attached to the status thing believing the decision would only came out in mid-April until I found this one :) It seems I have fallen behind a lot, at least the Friday Call up! Congratulations to those who have received  :D letters! I immediately checked both my mailbox and SGS status which is "under review" always. Hope we all will soon get a reply and thanks to the huge encouragements above hopefully more acceptances will arrive :))

It looks like social work is quite a local field as many people have said since most applicants posting here are locals. As an international applicant, I feel great to discover your life experiences and formal language assets here - learned a lot and will keep on that :)))

Welcome! You are from Shanghai? I wrote you a PM.

  5. Hi all - In these crazily stressful and anxious time, where every day drags on, I wanted to give everyone a warm reminder that it is only March 20th, and many, many more people are still to be invited. Most of us have applied to many schools but will only attend one, so if you think about how many people will turn down acceptances, it's a relief to know acceptances will be continually rolling in and there is probably another month left before it's time to start thinking the worst. My friend is in the UofT 2 year MSW and said she heard back last year mid-April - but trust me, I understand the need to know!!

Thank you! What you said was really helpful. Thanks. I am so stressed out!

  6. Hey Baozafan, I see in your signature that you got denied from York. When did you find out? They're just my top choice right now and I'm itching to hear one way or another from them!

And has anyone else heard from York yet? I usually don't e-mail universities for admissions updates but I did e-mail them the other day just for a rough estimate because I had trouble finding the information on their site.

I heard from York as early as February. I guess I just didn't meet their minimum requirement.

  7. I don't think that the strike will affect the admissions committee, they probably aren't a part of that strike because they are most likely tenured or permanent positions. Plus I read somewhere the university will stay open and operational even if a strike does end up happening.

However, someone did mention earlier in the forum they talked to Angela and she said they were dealing with flooding for a week so I would assume that if they were shut down for a week to deal with that it would push back everything by a week :( which means even longer waiting ... I have already started having dreams/nightmares about letters haha

Same here! I hate the uncertainty. I am an immigrant. I have a toddler at home and I live with my in-laws. They and my husband are supportive for my application this year, but if I fail, I don't know if they can be of help and supportive if I want to try another year! It's quite complicated. My chances of getting in any of the schools are slim since I got rejected by York as early as January,  but still I wish I can know all the decisions early. Even if they are all bad ones.

  8. I did the same thing last year (I was applying straight out of undergrad) so I took this year to volunteer as much as I possibly could but I cannot afford to do that for another year so I'm looking into post-grad fast track college programs now. I've been looking for full-time work since December and it has only made me realize that I need an MSW for anything that would truly make me happy career wise so everything is riding on this in a way lol no pressure but I'm sure we can all relate.

Good luck with your application this year!  :)

  9. Bettyg that paragraph perfectly summarizes my daily thought process. Not sure where all of you are living, but this snowy, freezing cold weather is making it all that much harder to stay calm and patient waiting for April. The wait is literally excruciating :(

Has anyone started thinking about their "plan-b"? I am wracking my brain trying to figure out what's next if this doesn't work out...

Me too, I am also thinking about what else I could do, should I do something else or try another year if this year doesn't work.... I don't have much volunteer experience, if I get more this year, maybe I can try next year. Good luck with your application!

  10. I just finished my U of T application! Fingers crossed. I am not confident about my application though as I don't have much experience related to social work. But I did my readings and research, I did my best while raising a baby and doing house chores. I am an immigrant by the way. I know U of T said they welcome people from a diverse background, I don't know if this will give me advantage or not. Good luck everyone!
