  1. To everyone in the Northeast area right now, stay safe!! To everyone trying to get into a school in the Northeast area, unexpected snow days are an added benefit that are generally not listed in the stipend packages
  2. Totally not necessary to go if it says optional but I definitely learned alot more about the program environment and it's a great chance to see how you interact and fit with all of the graduate students there and even your interview cohort since they might be part of the new year of students. That being said, you don't have to stay all night if you don't want to, a couple of the recruits went to dinner, stopped by the optional bar activity for a beer and then headed out since they had to catch early flights so no one will force you to stay there.
  3. It's pretty normal, a couple of friends of mine did this last year and they always sent out thank you letters to the interviewers and anyone that they interacted with for an extended period (ie a student host), I'll also be doing that but probably on monday since no one checks their email on saturday usually and I'm slightly recovering from all the alcohol this weekend
  4. I just got back from my first weekend and the faculty definitely asked where I had other interviews and the other students did as well. In my case, it seemed that the faculty wanted to know what my decision criteria was for selecting programs (ie would it be difficult to convince this student to move across the country for a program) I think it's safe to mention it to them if they ask but avoid it if they don't ask.
  5. So I just got back from my first interview weekend (NYU) so if anyone has any general questions about interviews or NYU in particular, feel free to PM me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
  6. OMG congrats, that's so amazing! Best of luck there!!
  7. So sorry, I thought I replied to you. They're also an excellent school. So I based my answer mostly on how many people recognize the program if they're mentioned off hand. Mount Sinai has a great reputation here in NYC but they're not on the same globally recognized scale as some of the others I mentioned. I wanted to give a comparison of NYU to some of the other schools mentioned here frequently when most people ask about NYC and biomedical PhD programs. I mostly hear around my institution that those are the top programs in the city but that's not a slight on NYU or Mount Sinai, I apologize if it sounded like that.
  8. To anyone waiting for Hopkins Immunology, I just gave them a call and all interview invites have been sent out To anyone waiting for Hopkins CMM, they are still reviewing applications and should get back to us soon.
  9. Well, I'm in the NYC area. The big players in terms of research here are Cornell, Sloan, Rockefeller and Columbia. NYU is also pretty well known and respected but I wouldn't say it is as prestigious as the other 4. Just to give you guys an idea, Rockefeller is hosting a talk with Jennifer Doudna for one of their monthly lecture series (for those that don't know her, she's the developer of the CRISPR/Cas9 technology) and I've heard they've invited over scientists before like Yamanaka (iPSCs) and other famous scientists.
  10. Yea, I could have spent that time doing something else instead I'm not sure because I'm on the east coast so it's close to 2am here and I got it about 30 minutes ago. If anything, they might continue through tomorrow?
  11. OMG just got an interview from Stanford Immunology!!! I'm freaking out right now!!! Best of luck to everyone else who applied to that program!
  12. Awesome, thanks! I just totally started freaking out about this. Good luck on the decision, hopefully we both get interviews from there!
  13. So I just logged in to check my application status for stanford and it says application incomplete and I see that I forgot to send my official transcripts.... I feel like I just made the biggest rookie mistake ever and just cost myself a potential interview. Does anyone think I might still have a chance since they have my unofficial transcript?
  14. Congrats!!! Good luck on the interview
  15. So I just noticed people posting results from Stanford on the results page. Good luck to everyone waiting on those decisions
  16. I'll be there that weekend too and it does seem like it's going to be fun. I hope we get to see a good show though, fingers crossed for Phantom I think we also overlap at Sinai. Looking forward to meeting you!
  17. Awesome! So glad to know at least one other grad cafer will be there too! What area are you interviewing for?
  18. Yea, **** totally just got real.... I'm feeling pretty nervous but at least I still have one more week to prepare. I'm still waiting on the names of my interviewers and where we're going for meals but other than that, I think the schedule I have is mostly final. Hopefully I get my main POI in the program, it would be so awesome to talk to her for 40 minutes.
  19. Is anyone going to the interview weekend next week at NYU Sackler?
  20. Hey everyone, So I was searching for how to prepare for interviews and I came across this blog post from someone here who went on interviews and gave us some helpful hints. Thought I would pass the link along Merry Christmas!!
  21. Might be the case actually, on the results thread, there were different notification dates so there might be some more after christmas. @ForScience! You might still get an interview after christmas so don't lose hope yet
  22. Mine is January 15-16th. I applied to the immunology program so it could be different dates for different programs?
  23. Somehow, I haven't had to reschedule any interviews yet. I've been super lucky as of now but if I get anymore, I will most likely run out of luck. Unless it's Stanford since they give late interviews historically
  24. OMG Weill Cornell interview as well!!!! Today is totally the best day ever!!! Thanks Santa Claus for giving the best gift of all
  25. I'm so lucky they gave me those dates since I had a string of interview weekends for a month starting on Jan 22nd. Now It just gets pushed back a week but at least I only have to take the subway and travel 30 minutes from home lol
