Thought I'd get the ball rolling on the SJSU 2015 application season. The last couple of years seemed to have a good amount of traffic, so wanted to see if anyone's applying for this coming fall. I'm from the bay area so SJSU would be a easy commute, plus they have a pretty great MSW program. Turned in my completed application on 12/15, so now the wait.
Was this anyone's first choice? Why?
I finished the school and department applications the second week of november and heard back from the school a couple days later with a campus id. It took a little less than two weeks to hear from the social work department stating that they got all my materials in. Last I checked, right before Christmas, I was under review.
No, definitely didn't mention it in my SOP. Just still surprised no one caught it. I'm gathering though from reading the message boards that it indeed could be worse by way of mistakes on my SOP. Hopefully admissions won't care since it's just a resume.
Instead of starting a new thread I have a similar question. I made a mistake on my resume and no matter how many times people read it, no one caught it. In the skills section where put what I have experience in, I start one bullet point where it just says * Experience with and that's it. I literally left off the rest of the sentence and no one caught it. How bad do you think this is considering it's leaving out words completely but on the other hand it's not my SOP?
Do you have a top choice? I found it hard to really find a complete top choice and working on the SOP's evolving around the concentration I'm interested in didn't help. Anywhere in Cali would be okay because I'm from NorCal, but really open to leaving the state.
Hey Everyone,
All my applications are in. Did most for the early decision deadline. I only applied to 7 programs. UW, PSU, SJSU, CSU Long Beach, CSULA, USC, San Diego State. These next 4 to 5 months are definitely going to be a brutal wait. No clue where I'm going to wind up but excited about it.
Good luck everyone
I think my applications are pretty strong overall but here's what I'm applying with:
GPA 3.83 BA in Sociology and History
None of the schools I applied for asked for the GRE
Social Service Experience:
7 months volunteering at a family shelter 4 hours a week
6 months volunteering at an AIDS organization
11 months interning with a local organization specializing in housing homeless individuals
3 months (current job) working with homeless and disabled veterans
TBI and TIC training/certification
LOR:
2 of them are from professors. Both were very strong and more detailed than I ever imagined them to be. The fact that they talked about academics as well as personality traits I think is a plus. My third LOR came from my direct supervisor during my internship.
SOP:
I feel pretty good about it. Had it proofread by a professor who has their master in English Lit, as well as two Sociology professors, one of which has served on committees for graduate admissions
