  1. Maybe someone can give me some advice on this: I went on an 'unofficial' visit to a school of interest a few months ago and was basically recruited by one of the professors there. I really like him and his research, but I decided that I didn't like the school or the town. However, I haven't told this professor yet because I guess a part of me is hoping I will change my mind (I won't) or that I'll get in somewhere else (I won't) and can use that as an excuse. The application deadline is February 1st and the professor has already contacted me asking if I have made any decisions yet. I don't see the point in finishing the application, but I really think I owe this person an explanation as to why, after leading him on for several months, I'm not even going to bother finishing my application. Anyone have a suggestion on how to phrase an email to this person?
  2. I sent an email yesterday, but I still haven't gotten a response. I have been holding off on calling because I didn't want to appear desperate or harass them. I imagine working in an admissions office around this time of the year is a pretty unpleasant job.
  3. I also recently found out that someone was invited to the recruitment weekend a week ago... also not a good sign.
  4. Contacting current students actually saved me from applying to a place I really would have regretted going to. Particularly, I had a long phone conversation with a student who told me about her EX-advisor. She was very honest and made it very clear that he was not someone I should be working with. I really appreciated her frank response. However, I know that's not always the case with contacting current students.
  5. That was my feeling. Oh well.
  6. I'm assuming if a program's recruitment weekend is February 5-6th and I haven't heard anything yet this is not a good sign. Right?
