  1. Talk to your professor and ask them to resubmit and make sure they get a confirmation. Sometimes the forms are poorly designed or the professor just messes up. Email the graduate coordinator and let them know about the technical difficulty. Ask if they can send the letter directly to the program via email if they can't get the technical difficulty resolved. Shouldn't be an issue but you should take care of this ASAP. Good luck!
  2. Thanks Clausius, congrats to you too! Sounds like you should have an admission once they get whatever info they need from you. Congrats on MIT tulips!
  3. Anyone know why some of the UW Madison results are showing interview rather than acceptance? My email was a straight admission, seems kind of weird.
  4. Got my UW-Madison admit by email this morning! Visits are March 6-7 and 20-21. Really excited.
  5. *crickets chirping* not too much going on this week, huh? but I'd imagine lots of results next week...
  6. Thank you for the response! I have my fingers crossed about Wisconsin.
  7. I am in chemical engineering and I'm just assuming that the admissions committees will know who my letter writers are. And that the fact that they are successful will help. Maybe it's different in other fields though.
  8. ^ Congrats! Fingers crossed I'm next...
  9. This is perfect, thanks for the reply! I am sure I will come up with many more questions and may send you a PM. For now - any reason you picked Wisconsin over other programs (especially UT)? Obviously there is a very strong controls program, but I'm curious if anything in particular stood out to you at visits, etc. I'm definitely interested in doing multiple industry internships if possible, so I'm glad - and not really surprised - to hear it's commonly done by PhD students in this area.
  10. Wasn't me There have been a couple submitted..
  11. I am calm...in fact, there was a last minute issue with one of mine AND some of my letters still aren't in...but I am pretty damn calm.
  12. Thanks for the replies! MathCat's story is interesting and something I wondered about. I did get an admit before all my LORs were in for one school, so more proof that they're "going to do what they want" I guess. Another obvious reason NOT to procrastinate like me is that any technical difficulties will presumably get you a lot less sympathy if brought up in a panic at the last minute.
  13. I'm kind of a procrastinator, and have been submitting most of mine on or quite close to the deadlines - most of the work is done, I just tend to wait for whatever reason. I've already gotten a couple acceptances, so my anecdata says no, but - has anyone ever heard of committees judging / giving a crap about last minute submissions?
  14. I had a very similar situation to commodork (the first two years' GPA wasn't terrible or anything), but opted not to mention it. I was on the fence. I am hoping improvement is obvious and viewed positively.
  15. I got another acceptance! So 2/6, feeling very grateful and happy so far. But man this site is so unused that I'm worried that posting more details could out me to anyone who knows me. I expected ChemE PhD applicants to be a lot more neurotic and all over the internet anticipating this stuff, haha.
  16. What about Georgia Tech? Their deadline is not until February I believe.
  17. Mine were about 1000 words (only one required me to at this amount and ended up being exactly 1000). I was somewhat concerned this was too long, but felt unable to reduce the length any further given I had several items to discuss including both research and full-time industry experience. I think they were the right length in the end, but there was a lot that I had to force myself to leave out and I wouldn't have gone any longer.
  18. Those scores are fine, I wouldn't retake it at this point. But I kind of see the whole thing as a money-making racket anyway.
  19. This may be a bit late to assuage anyone's fears, but my understanding is that the admissions committee isn't going to care too much or fault the students if the letters are in a bit later than the deadline. They are professors too and understand that our professors can take some prodding to get these things organized and submitted. Personally I wouldn't stress over a few days' tardiness. Some of the above situations are pretty crappy though.
  20. Thanks, congrats to you as well! I have not yet received any other acceptances but personally I'm not too worried about other weekends, as Texas was a top pick for me and there's really only one other option I'd strongly consider if I got in there. I'll look out for your PM.
  21. It looks like this forum is mostly full of admissions-related stuff, but I'll throw this question out there anyway. Any perspective on process control/systems engineering programs? In terms of overall outlook for the field relative to other areas of chemical engineering, nature of the research, common paths that PhD's often follow in industry, etc.?
  22. I got into UT-Austin by phone on the 23rd. A bit shy to post stats on the internet for the whole world to see (may change my mind later), but PM me if you got in or want to chat about Texas!
