I will be in DC for most of the summer doing an internship with a non profit organization. I also plan to read the autobiography of the person my graduate fellowship is named after.

I haven't fully decided if I'm going to Boston University, just because there is one school that hasn't notified me yet of their decision, but I think it's unlikely they will give me a better offer.
Hello!!!!!! If I attend, I will be in the College of Fine Arts for painting . Wooh!
I'm from Texas So I haven't ever been to Boston and will need lots of help getting around! haha!
Please let me know if you accept. I'm from Georgia and have gone to school in SC so I too will need help getting around as well.

I'm curious about the religious experience among gay, black men. I am curious as to how their lived experiences problematize christian theology and other religious ideologies. Also, I'm curious as to how the church as a social institution can facilitate positive and negative effects on black, gay men.
My current undergraduate research in studying how gay, young black men interprete scripture and how that interpretation influences their sexual orientation.

I thought it would be good to connect with other people going to Boston Univeristy in the fall of 2015. I'll be in the School of Theology.

I vote Columbia for basically the reasons everyone else said.

I got accepted into VDS with 75% tuition.

I just called. Apparently they are being prepared for release around 6-7pm (EST),
Oh wow. I'll be checking my email every minute of that hour.
-
Apparently Duke Divinity School will be announcing their rejections and acceptations today.
Where did you hear that from?
-
So the snow storms in areas where I am applying for grad school has caused schools to close. This further delays the admissions process. That is all.
-
It should be illegal for schools that you have applied to to email you crap that don't have ANYTHING to do with admissions. EVERYTIME I see the schools in my inbox I get happy and than realize it's a pointless email.

You know the wait has gotten bad when you start looking forward to the end of the weekend. Every Monday brings new hope!
I think is this first time in my life I have actually looked forward to Mondays.
-
I would like to preface this by saying I am a first generation college student, so the whole grad school thing is a bit new to most people in my family. (I love them immensely and know that they ultimately mean well)
Aunt: What are you planning to do after you graduate?
Me: I plan on going to school for a masters.
Aunt: So wait, you are going back to school?
Me: Pretty much!
Aunt: If you are going BACK to school, what's the point of graduating from the one you are at?
Me: "......" {lost for words}

Oh gosh! I'm sorry to cause any panic... I actually applied to the Duke "Early Deadline" on November 1st and they emailed me my acceptance on December 19th. So, it was about 7 weeks before they got back to me.
Oh. Well that makes sense. I was so nervous and just basically accepted my fate of being denied.

Hey all!
I applied to Duke, Union Theological, Vanderbilt, Yale, and Harvard for their Master of Divinity program (all by the priority deadlines) and have already heard back from Duke and Yale!
Did anyone else apply to any of these schools? I know that Harvard is pretty consistant with their mid-March responses for applicants, but I was wondering if anyone else knows when to expect a response from the others.
I am now spending more time checking my email and looking at my phone for missed calls than I ever have in my whole life. I just keep reminding myself to breathe...
I applied to Duke for the MDiv program by the priority deadline and havn't heard anything. Oh noooooo!!!
-
I'm waiting to hear back from Duke Divinity and BU school of Theology. I applied to both the first week in January to meet the priority deadline. So, I guess I'll continue to wait.
-
I got into Candler as well.
-
Anyone heard back from the M.A., M.Div and MTS programs they applied to?
I heard back from Candler. Let's just say, it was good news.

Well it happened to me again today. I got an email that said: "Dear Applicant, Congratulations again on...... submitting your application to XYZ Theological Seminary."
To make matters worst. I shared with my colleagues how it was cruel for XYZ to send me that fake out email and no one understood why.
-
XYZ Divinity School almost gave me a heart attack this morning. They sent an email and had me thinking it's an admissions decisions, when it's just an invitation for applicants who are interested in pastoring while in seminary to come to this informational session. I was so annoyed. How are you going to invite me I am event before I know if im even accepted. What if I go to the event and that just so happens to be the day I'm denied? Huh? Answer that question XYZ Divinity.

Tez, I just finished my MTS at Boston University STH and I would give a similar positive review of BU as Josh has of Vanderbilt. The faculty and support staff are tremendous and value you as a person who happens to be a student. They are always available and personable. Now, the downside would come from the cost of living in Boston compared to Nashville. But, it's a great city!
Feel free to message me if you have any questions in the future. Good luck!
Thank you greatly. I certainly will message you.

As I sit and wait to hear back from graduate programs that I have applied to, I figured as a way to pass the time I should start looking into things to do over the summer. While I was in undergraduate school there were many research opportunities I participated in, but they were usually for non graduating students.
What are you all planning on doing/or did the summer right before you started your graduate program?
What advice would you give someone?
Should they just find a job and save up their money?
Should they take a break from academics to rest their mind?
Respond as you will like.
