Boulder is awesome! Congrats Heimat! JJWS, great status and don't worry you'll hear back. I finally did, and it was somewhat of a relief even tough it was one school of eight and a rejection.

Count me in among the massacred receiving rejections from Duke. I oddly at peace about this. I expected it, Duke wasn't the best fit.

I would like to be rejected by Duke, Emory, or UVA...put me out of my misery.

I too thought my niche area of concentration would afford me certain advantages, but I'm still in limbo. C'est la vie I suppose, maybe nobody shared my research interests. Yet, while I did not contact POI at all the institutions to which I applied (something I'm starting to regret as those personal connections likely would have proved beneficial), those I did contact seemed interested in my research and supportive. IDK, this waiting is just maddening.

Yeah, I feel like that IU letter was nicer than it had to be.

Thanks for the heads up JJWS, I guess the waiting game continues.

Seriously! I don't get why there is a lag between acceptances and rejections. Just let people know at the same time and put them out of their misery. A rejection is a rejection, it's not like we're waitlisted or anything...and if we are, let us know!

Also, see my prior comment and substitute Emory for Duke.

So we have three Duke acceptances on the results page, do they do two waves? If not, when should we all expect our rejections? Anybody have insight?
  13. In a previous life I was a freelance writer, so one can say I know a thing or two about rejection. To echo what others have said, the most important thing to remember about rejection is it provides us with a starting point for growth. Don't let a rejection letter deter you, rather use it as a tool for introspection and allow yourself to identify whatever shortcomings your application may have or those factors out of your control and assess the choices afforded you as you move forward.

Also, it's this feeling of languishing in limbo as we drift closer to doom that really irks me. The longer I go without hearing anything from these schools, the more I believe I won't be accepted anywhere.

Wow, I wish I had upvotes to spend on that Tom Petty video. Well done Ivan.

The crazy thing about this site, other than its ability to build anxiety, is how I feel like I know some of you. I find myself telling my wife stories about the people on this forum, updating her on who was accepted or rejected and where, as well as the feeling of togetherness this forum affords us. While I hate this waiting game, I'm glad I have all of you to share in the collective anxiety, paranoia, and frustration.

Amen Chiqui. What I'm most afraid of, out of this whole scary and anxiety rich process, is disappointing my family.

Last night, I dreamed I was accepted at UNC Chapel Hill (my dream school). The most memorable parts of the dream were the reactions of my wife and my immigrant mother when I told them I was accepted. Like ashiepoo, I am my family's American Dream, I hope that dream comes true with an acceptance.
