Thanks for the support guys. I really appreciate the well wishes from this community. Now let's see if UVA picks me up off the waiting list or what my other pending applications come back as (probably rejections though).
-
Well, I know I've gotten into at least one program. I just got my offer of admission to Florida International University's PhD in Latin American History program. All it takes is one "yes."
-
And it seems I was right, I just checked and saw I've been rejected from UT-Austin. Fabulous.

While I appreciate Professor Plum's advice and would love to be assured by it, I'm still freaking out. UVA told me I would find out by April 1st...this anxiety is going to give me an ulcer. Has anyone heard anything about UNC? I've resigned myself to the idea that I probably didn't get in to Florida or Texas since I haven't heard anything and they sent out acceptances and invites a while ago.

I couldn't agree more. Thank you Professor Plum, for your insight. While this site absolutely use this site as a place to vent, sympathize with each other when many of those in our everyday lives may not understand how we feel at the moment, it is an echo chamber for our anxieties and by no means should be taken to offense. I believe most of us on this site appreciate the monumental task adcoms undertake, nor do we trivialize the sacrifice to a professor's time the commitment commands. That said, many of us have our lives on hold and are anxious to find out if or when we may have to uproot our lives, and our families', to establish a new routine in new place. It's only natural for us to want to share in our collective frustration and anxiety. Our emotions are running high. While I know I have lent myself to hyperbolic vents of said frustration, I do always respect and appreciate the adcoms and university staff for their consideration and work on my behalf (in addition to their regular duties).

I really hate that these schools leave me hanging.

Sorry Chiqui, and especially sorry for you Josh. While I still have hope, it is fading very quickly and would not be surprised if I end up in your same shoes. Sucks.
-
Congrats Chiqui, very happy for you. Good luck.
-
Sorry Harvard people, it's never fun hearing you've been rejected.
-
LeventeL, kudos on the Calvin & Hobbes profile picture. That made my day.

Thanks Anna Leigh, looks like we won't have the chance to potentially be classmates at the University of Miami I got that rejection on Friday after a particularly bad day at work. Suffice to say, that night I put a dent in a nice bottle of scotch. At this point I just want to get in anywhere, but UVA would be a dream come true.

Yeah, I assume that I am on the waiting list. When rejections came out and I didn't receive one I contacted the office of graduate admissions and they confirmed my application is still under review. I guess the wait list is better than being rejected, but it's still not an acceptance

I need some good news today, I hope this is the week all of us waiting for an acceptance get what we're waiting for.
-
Welp, put me down for another rejection (on top of an already crappy day at work). I'm going to pour myself a scotch now.
-
That's great news Molly!

Man, it rained rejections today.

Congrats mmehistorian and emmd94. I have a buddy who did his undergrad at UPenn and loved it in Philly. You'll have a great time.

Kind of a slow day around here.

I'm in the same boat. I assume UT is Austin? I've applied to both programs and have yet to hear anything. I suppose not being rejected out-right is a good sign, but the waiting is killing me. I'm also still in the running at UVA, and while I'm thankful to have been spared the massacre yesterday, I'm not sure I can continue with this level of anxiety.

I may also go to AHA. And I would also like to upvote ellebe, I certainly look forward to meeting the Grad Cafe History crew.
-
Fianna, count me in if and when I am accepted anywhere.
-
Congrats PD33! That's awesome news.

Thanks marte, I hope so, UVA would be a dream.

What is up with these schools? Why can't UVA send e-mails at least prompting a visit to the website when their official decision is made? I get that not all schools will be as considerate as Emory in sending a very nice letter directly to our inboxes, but UVA can at least go the route Duke took and send an e-mail telling the applicant to check the website. While I didn't receive my official status today, I feel for those who did by stumbling upon their decision on the website. Those of you who were rejected, let us know if and when you receive any other communication about UVA's final decision. I'm curious to see if they will send e-mails later.

Thanks! I'm trying not to raise my hopes too high, but it's hard not to when all I've experienced thus far is swift rejection.
