  1. I'm a little concerned, because someone in the grad sch office told me they would accept an unofficial transcript if it was emailed directly from the college I attended. If it becomes an issue at least have the person's name from the grad school office.
  2. Arizona State (but only submitted 2 weeks ago), U of KY, Case Western, U of SC, and four others that will remain unnamed.
  3. OK, I am officially stir crazy. This is just a vent. I have heard nothing, nada, zilch from 3 programs I applied to in January (one is CSU Chico, which I believe notifies on March 30th). Another school keeps sending me letters (for weeks) about how they can't review my app because I applied with a slightly different name than what's listed on FAFSA. A name change form, and various emails later, it is STILL not updated on the portal. Does anyone else think that this is indicative of a poorly run school or program? Or is it normal? My therapist has told me to consider things like this before saying "yes," to avoid potential frustrations as a future MSW student at a university. The same university is also showing a missing transcript when I know it arrived 2 weeks ago. And it is being listed as an unmet "student requirement" that's holding up the review of my application. AAAAAaaaaaaarrrggghhhhhh. Oh, did I mention that I'm impatient?
  4. One more thing: I contacted a university a few days ago, and am happy that I did. I learned that the person who was serving as MSW program coordinator moved on to a different position, and her replacement was only two weeks into the job. And the school had been closed for several days due to weather. When I asked her about application status, she said "I'm only up to November." I applied in January. So I expect it will be closer to April (or later) before I hear. But at least I know...
  5. I agree. Especially if it's close to the anticipated decision time. If you were contacting two weeks after submitting your application, that would be odd.
  6. I hope I'm not violating any rules, but wanted to let people know about this t-shirt. It's an important, empowering message. I think they'll do another run if 30 or more people show interest. https://www.facebook.com/yallmeansall
  7. Does almost everyone get generous funding at CWRU?
  8. Congratulations! Do you remember exactly when she submitted her application? I sent mine at the end of the priority review (15 Jan).
  9. It dudnt sound like y'all's tard of hatin on KY yet...
  10. WhatAmIDoingNow thanks for the input. I would like to be in TUS, because I prefer a smaller, politically liberal place. Love the fact that Rep Sinema is involved.
  11. I contacted the program office yesterday, and the woman I spoke with was equally surprised about the email. She also agreed that it's vague and confusing. I do not have a social work background - my career has been focused on marketing communications - so when she mentioned that UK hopes to attract more students from other states, I decided I will contact schools about improving their recruiting and admissions communications if I'm not accepted to an MSW program :-) I don't know about anyone else, but as I sit here, as an adult pursuing a new career path, about to make some huge life decisions that involve changing my entire way of life - including a possible cross country move - vague email communications are stressful. I applied to UK because I have family ties in Kin-tucky, am interested in Appalachian populations, and love Lexington. Yikes, I think it's cruel that Penn would encourage unqualified applicants to apply. The process is so time consuming. Surely they don't need the extra revenue from application fees!
  12. Thanks. A colleague applied to several highly ranked MSW programs in November and has either heard nothing, or been rejected. She seems to think it might be because she mentioned ADHD in some apps. She's not hyper - but is more of an 'absent-minded professor' type - e.g. very, very disorganized, messy desk, loses focus. What I don't know is HOW she described it, because it's not something she has really overcome, and both graduate school and social work require good organizational skills.
  13. I haven't been to Tucson recently, but have liked it every other time I've visited. Econ Friendly, consider the elevation differences between Tucson (2,589' - at the airport) and Phx (1,117'). In Oracle, which I understand is sparsely populated the elev is 4,525'. It's generally cooler at higher elevations so... I have a 5 lb doglet and 2 bunnies - I hear you on the rental challenges. CityChild, thanks for the input on internship placement - very good to know.
  14. Hey, I recently received this email from UKY. I am sure they meant to be helpful, but encouraging me to "consider the opportunity before you," is vague and confusing. Btw, I bolded the text.. Anyone else ever received something like this? And, nah, the waiting game isn't affecting my brain THAT much....hahaha. Thank you for your recent application to the University of Kentucky Graduate School. As you consider the opportunity before you, we encourage you to continue to work with your Director of Graduate Studies as well as with your Admissions Officer. UK is a great institution and we believe we will be even greater because of students such as you. Please let us know if we can be of service to you. As always, we wish you much success!
  15. I've heard that specialization is not critical. A professor told me that employers look for "MSW," paid experience and licensure. And aren't concerned about specializations.
  16. Be on top of my internship placement? In what way?
  17. Congratulations! I am hoping to hear back soon. I love the ASU program for its PAC focus. I chose the Tucson component because I'm not a Phoenix fan and, contrary to popular belief, Tucson tends to be a little cooler (weather) than Phoenix due to its elevation. Good luck with U of A!
  18. Have any of you ever mentioned personal challenges such as dyslexia or ADHD in an SOP? Is it too risky, or would an adcom view the applicant simply as someone who requires extra resources? I really appreciate your thoughts.
  19. As a California resident, I qualify for WRGP. I applied to the Tucson program because I'm not wild about Phoenix. Yep, the weather is beautiful now but it will be a nightmare for half the year. Tucson is hot, too, but I'm told it can be cooler than PHX thanks to higher elevation. The waiting game continues....
  20. I've applied to ASU - is anyone else out there an applicant or MSW student? Thanks!
  21. Some schools list their acceptance rates. I believe that Tulane accepts 85% of applicants. State schools seem to be all over the place..I recently asked one school about acceptance rates and the answer was, "we're trying to increase our enrollment." I'm applying to 7 schools.
  22. Anyone know anything about this program? I can't find much information apart from a #44 ranking...
  23. Hi Tamburger, I had a similar question. I answered a situation where my local Rotary Club was doing something that Rotary's bylaws SPECIFICALLY say is "unacceptable." I explained how the club's actions did not dignify the worth of human beings, was discriminatory and disrespectful. Like social work, Rotary has its own "code of ethics" and I described how I applied Rotary's code to address the situation, which ultimately resolved it.
  24. Thanks! I appreciate your feedback. Appreciate it!
