  1. No one here did, perhaps it was a troll? But I don't understand the logic behind trolling. When I called USC last week, they said they didn't make any decisions yet.
  2. Most UC schools follow whatever previous years and are independent of a particular date (although they have their own guidelines they might share). I guess look up the results in results search and input "UC Santa Barbara or UCSB" "degree (feminist or gender? I forget UCSB's program). Hope it helps =).
  3. Awww, I am sorry to hear that. =(. Yeah, I hate it when schools don't send out rejections and acceptances at the same time (some do but most apparently do not).
  4. Personally, no news is good news right now from USC. USC really responds mid-Feb for most programs. So stay hopeful.
  5. If a program typically conducts interviews and has sent out invitations for interviews, you can safely assume rejection. There is a chance that if enough of those interviewees reject/decline the offer your name can be bumped up but if the interview session has already occurred, I'm sorry. I feel your pain!!
  6. Oh really, mine had the program at the top of it before my name and at the end it was like "We're sure you have other options." I find that flattering but I DO NOT HAVE OTHER OPTIONS RIGHT NOW AND FREAKING OUT! And I cannot update my results as well. =(
  7. Nope, still says submitted. If you are curious, you could always call USC (I am too afraid to hear any more bad news this week) and ask if all graduate admissions decisions have been released.
  8. Oh wow, well that means good (or bad) news can be coming by Jan 30th then? That's amazing! I hope we both get in. I really hate the competitive aspect to PhD programs. Also, Emory just sent out the rejection e-mails. That makes 3 out of 8 now. Getting discouraged even after a publication and conference presentation.
  9. Oh, how do you know? Did you e-mail? And yeah, IUB is my top choice. I am secretly a huge fan of Brenda Weber and love her work and it is so closely related to my work. Also to the Penn State poster, sorry, did not apply there =(. Best of luck!!!
  10. I saw that too (I applied to USC Am. Studies because of the fit) but a result over the weekend really seems weird. USC is really bad with undergrad and grad admissions so they don't (usually) respond until mid feb and early March, according to past year results. Edit: USC does admit in waves, also. Forgot about that.
  11. I called grad admissions. If you haven't heard back about an interview (They already made the phone calls) then rejection e-mails should be going out sometime next week
  12. I agree with you on that. I think if you have other programs and you have faculty you want to work with, maybe shoot them a quick refresher e-mail so they can vouch for you that they will work with you. It really can't hurt you, albeit it is a bit sycophantic.
  13. sorry for double post. I called Emory. They already sent out the interview list =(. The hope is gone for WGSS program, sadly. They did say if people decline, they'll go down the list.
  14. Haha, I feel the mixed emotions too. I am tempted to call the WGSS department as well.
  15. Well, Monday is a holiday so it would be today or Tuesday. Emory is also very timely with rejection e-mails as well from past year results. Thus, both should come around the same time. Things come up so Emory using "around" means give or take 1-3 business days.
  16. Has anyone heart anything yet? Nothing in the results section but perhaps those 10-14 people do not use gradcafe, haha... It would be nice if the grad admissions e-mailed with an update.
  17. Glad someone posted this. Yeah, they said around the 13/14 but they also said they are going to deliberate during the week of the 12th. They will probably call by thurs/friday (even monday is a possibility). I think once we start seeing interviews on the results page or here, we can presume who got called and who did not.
  18. Oh my. Well, I know my thesis advisor told me they sometimes just weed out applications that don't seem like a good fit or did not conform to certain rules they had (I know USC ASE program actually put GRE cutoffs for the first time this year). I applied to Maryland's American Studies instead of Women's Studies program because the funding was a little better there and there were faculty in both departments for me. Your letter just seems like they could not fund you or it just wasn't a good fit, especially since you received it this soon. The "Based on the requirements" sounds like a filler almost every school uses. It is actually really discouraging... but eh... From previous years, it seems that Minnesota and Emory respond the earliest with acceptances.
  19. Ugh, you made me feel 1000% better about myself for sure. Good luck on your applications as well!
  20. I wanted to share a part what Ohio State's rejection said about me (I was like so confused. I have 2 publications, 2 conference attendances, coordinator of service projects for 100+ people, and working on an honors thesis as an undergrad). "The committee's decision was reached after careful evaluation of your qualifications in comparison with those of other applicants and is in no way intended to reflect upon your ability to undertake study as a graduate student." Like what the heck is that? Is it saying I am under-qualified or is it really just saying that I was not a good fit with the program? Also, week of Emory interviews. THE NERVES =(.
  21. I feel you Janaca, no worries. I am trying to stay optimistic as well. I have 7 more and you have 6. I am sure one of the programs will take us !! Has your status on Minnesota's application change from awaiting program decision? Minnesota was my top choice but when I called on Friday, the front desk said admissions decisions were made and that people were invited. Seems odd as the forums from past years state Jan 10-26 for results (I'm hoping the person at the front desk was just a work study who did not know anything. Too optimistic? Emory's WGSS e-mailed prior to the new year with news of announcing interviews around the 13-14th and interview week will occur the 5-8th of Feb (no one will be offered an admissions spot if they cannot attend this weekend if invited). So we'll hear back from Emory soon!
  22. Hi Loreali_Gilmore, I had a friend last year receive a similar e-mail about the self-funding. She replied no and was ultimately rejected because she did not win the graduate nor the diversity fellowship. Sadly, if they cannot fully fund you in your 1st year (years 2-4 are covered by TAships mostly) then they most likely won't take you =(. It is horrible news. What other programs are you applying to? Also, to anyone else, I called U-Minnesota today and they said they already sent out a wave of acceptances and list of alternatives. This makes me sad as my application status has not even changed yet.
  23. Hello all! I applied to 8 PhD programs. 2 American Studies programs, and 6 Gender Studies programs. I received my 1st rejection today from Ohio State University. I seriously thought this was my safety school but I guess to show everyone that there is no such thing as a "safety" school. To the person who received the rejection above, it most likely was not a "good fit" for you. Sometimes faculty members whom you mention are going on leave or will be leaving the university and there will be no one left to work with you. Hope this helps=). Let's all keep hopeful =)!
