  1. I would say that if one is doing SPSS or statistical/graphing/heavy empirical data, definitely use the pro. I'm still up in the air as I am not really doing that but might be doing images, some figures, and the like so I am torn still. but the mobility is an issue w/ my bad back.=p
  2. I was the one who started that discussion. I decided to go mac after all my years as PC. The question for me is Air or pro w/ retina. I think I'm leaning towards air for mobility and depending on your grad field, you don't need the 16gb + 5xx flash storage as an air 256 pci storage + 8gb memory will suffice w/ operations.
  3. Congrats!! Where did you accept again? And tomorrow is the deadline! good luck all=)
  4. For anyone waiting on last minute decisions, I have also declined the offer to OSU's GWSS MA program, if anyone applied for the MA there as well.
  5. you will quickly see how fast money flies in NYC. Depending on where you live, the average 1 bedroom is about 1000-1200 dollars a month. studios a good 800-900 (out of city in brooklyn/queens of course). Food is amazingly expensive. You can literally spend 100 on groceries and be like "What did I buy?" But yes, NYU offers an amazing package and 26k is enough to make it. Allot about half (13k) to rent, utilities, and other bills.
  6. Oh! Good luck! Don't give up hope, even post April 15th a decision could roll in if someone holds out until the last minute!!!
  7. I will also be denying IUB's offer within the next few days, so anyone on the waitlist might hear good news soon, I hope =). And Guillame, UofMinnesota was slightly a better fit for my research interests and the security with funding is AMAZING there (I also like the city vibe more than the small/quaint town vibe). Both programs are flexible, where IUB is slightly more flexible I think, which made this a difficult decision.
  8. I took a gap year after high school and realized my life outside of the academy is well lifeless. The academy might give me a whole lot of stress but, for some odd reason, my body loves the stress and cannot seem to live without it. I also really love the idea of researching about topics that I like and being on my own, especially away from these general education classes that have nothing to do with my field (yeah, I know well-rounded student). Also, student loans... (this was a soft factor but still mattered).
  9. Received my official acceptance last week! So yep, really leaning towards U of Minnesota right now. So excited! It is also an added benefit that I really love the cold weather.
  10. 1st day of spring break: struggling to write a simple 5 page paper, finish my thesis, and recover from wisdom teeth extraction. At least no more wisdom teeth to bother me in grad school!

  11. two waitlists are better than one. I'm sure one will work out. I was in the same predicament.
  12. Was lifted off the waitlist for Minnesota Feminist Studies program today. I will be officially accepting that offer. Congrats to everyone else. I've been MIA for a while.
  13. lifted off the waitist to my top program. YASSSSSS. HELLO U OF MINNESOTA

  14. returned from 1st recruitment visit. exhausted. so much info to process.

  15. I will PM you when I return. I am excited, nervous, and terrified. Most importantly, I want to know about funding. =p
  16. If you e-mail your POI or the person who contacted you, you should ask how the alternate/waitlist works. Is it ranked? Or is it by research area? the latter means you are dependent on someone else with similar research interests declining. If it is ranked, hope you are numbers 1-3. Usually if you are beyond 2 or 3 for a waitlist it doesn't look that good, but never lose hope! You never know, seriously!
  17. Chiming in! Anyone going to IUB recruitment weekend this Thursday-Sat?
  18. First campus visit this week. Dress like I would any other day right? No one wears a formal to these things? (not a business program)

For me at least, this is an accepted students day.

If you have an interview, wear formal. If it's an open house/mingle, business casual.

Thanks for this! I was wondering the same thing. I have a recruitment day coming up, but it is for accepted students. No interview (as far as I know :)) but there is a small get-together at the DGS's house in the evening. Seems like business casual is the way to go.

  19. I am currently waitlisted there. It is my top choice so I am hoping to be a fellow gopher soon as well!
  20. Ahhhh Kateosee! I am like so happy for you! You have such a tough decision but at least you will stay at Michigan!!! Yay you!
