  1. Also contact the MSW program and ask about teaching apprenticeships!
  2. There is not a lot of hope out there for funding a MSW. Usually you will get a small amount of help from the school but unless you are the best of the best, you are not going to find a full ride and large amount coming from the school. Getting into a MSW program is quite difficult and has a large applicant pool which leads to schools not having to give large amounts of funding to students because either way they will fill their incoming class. You can research online, independent scholarships based on your wife's background. You stated that she has Native American roots, you can start with a search for that. Most scholarships are competitive and require an essay BUT if she meets the criteria then I would say that these could be of some help! Getting a MSW is expensive and there are not many ways to get around it. If your wife has previous federal loans, you can call and ask about the 10 year program for service workers. This can also apply after she would graduate with a MSW. Unfortunately, having an undergraduate degree in the social work field will leave you barely making bills and looking to move up to have financial security. Is a MSW worth it? It is worth having an extra 100,000 dollars in debt for school to make only about 15,000 dollars more a year? It may be worth it if a person is looking to become a LCSW or go on for a PHD but sometimes working in the field is just as important. Bottom line, any graduate program is expensive and will increase your chances of finding non-entry level positions. I would research independent scholarships, look into the 10 year program with federal loans, call financial aid at the school, and possibly talk to a current MSW or previous MSW student. This is what I plan on doing! Best of luck to you and your wife!
  3. I think this should also depend on what type of program you are looking for. DU has a much more hands on based approach with a lot of opportunity for field work whereas, CSU is research based. After going to CSU, I found that this would not be a program fit for me because it was very narrow in opportunity and doing work within the field. I believe they require you to take four research classes. Consider what you are trying to do in the long run! A lot of research based schools prepare you for further education whereas, activist schools prepare you for work in the field and the realities you will face. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!! It took me forever to find schools that would fit me best. After all of my applying, I wish I would have done a little more in-depth research due to looking for a very narrow field in my MSW. You will end up where you are suppose to be but think bigger picture and which programs YOU would best fit into! Hope this gives you some insight.
  4. I have tried to get a hold of them so many times. NOTHING. I have no idea if my transcripts made it! I wonder when they even make decisions? I have heard nothing since applying
  5. Oh Denver is an amazing city!!! You are very lucky to be moving there! Housing close to the school is pretty expensive. If you look closer to LowDo you will find more students and cheaper housing. Also, Denver has amazing public transportation so getting from there to campus is not bad. LowDo is quite the experience, actually all of Denver is quite a different world. VERY active and low key area. Working for the state...not going to happen BUT working for non-profits is expanding greatly! Denver is booming right now so housing is expensive but employment is great! Best of luck to you and I am VERY jealous.
  6. I feel your pain of rejection.
  7. Your application is still being reviewed. When the application status says "Complete" that is when you know a decision has been made. If accepted and the application status states Complete, the buttons will appear. If the application status states Complete and the buttons do not appear, you have been wait listed or denied. The worst part is not having the buttons appear and waiting on a letter in the mail with the final decision. I was denied from University of Denver (even though my GPA was a 3.3 from two years ago and I have a strong background of experience in the field) and called admissions to speak with them regarding why I was denied. DU relies heavily on GPA to go up in rankings....as they even stated in the information session. DU was my dream school BUT I was accepted to University of Michigan...the number one school for MSW...so I figure that it is their loss. Everything happens for a reason! Plus A LOT of people applied to DU this year due to certain laws making certain things legal and the growth rate for the city of Denver! I wish you the best of luck and if you get in, have the most amazing time in Denver, it is an amazing city.
  8. From my reading, if your application status says Complete, they have made a decision. If you do not have notice on Wolverine then you most likely are either wait listed or denied. Wait list's and acceptances get an e-mail sent to whatever e-mail they stated on the application that they have reached an admissions decision (sometimes takes a few days to come into your regular e-mail after the decision is made) and it states the decision on there. Denials get decisions through snail mail. This is what I have learned from knowing students at UofM and from reading different articles. BEST OF LUCK!! UofM is one of the hardest schools to get into Even being wait listed is an honor. Ann Arbor is an amazing city, the faculty for the MSW program are top notch, and the resources available for any specialization are fabulous. A good way of looking at it, if you are denied from ANY program, maybe they knew you would not flourish in their program and that they do not have the resources to support your goals and future endeavors The waiting part is the hardest but take a deep breathe and know that you are not alone!!!!
  9. Well I hope this is the case!
  10. I did not make the early deadline...the wait is killing me. What do we think? One more month of waiting for me?
  11. From what I have read, UCLA waits for all applicants to apply before looking at all because they have such a low acceptance rate. This is terrifying!!!! i have heard that only about 100 people are accepted out of like 3,000...if this is true....may all of the God's in the world have our best in mind The wait is killing me.
  12. I heard that a lot of people will not hear back until February or March due the massive amount of people who are applying to MSW programs this year. Yikes!
  13. I believe it is the 15th at 11:59pm.
  14. I am a little scared about hearing back from any school...so many are competitive! I have a 3.3 GPA with a B.A. in Women and Gender Studies. I was a memeber of Chi Omega Sorority and the womens honor society. I worked as a research assitant at our psychology department, an intern at the womens center, a vounteer for our womens activist committee, a volunteer for Make-A-Wish, Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer, and volunteer educator at Irish Feminist Network while studying abroad! After graduation, I have worked as a junior case manager with troubled female adolescents, a case manager for a rehabilitation center, a case manager for troubled youth, and FINALLY, I currently work as an advocate for the State of New York Protection and Advocacy System for the disabled, representative payee reviewer for Social Security Administration throughout the State of New York (part-time), site-manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters (part-time), and I volunteer as a staff member for Make-A-Wish Foundation! I am also in the process of publication “A Guide for Tranisition and Assistive Technology into Vocational Rehabilitation”! I am hoping I have a chance of being admitted anywhere! If not, maybe that is not where my path was suppose to lead
  15. I called and they said the decision was made and the letter was sent in the mail
  16. I just called! They said they cannot tell me that information. My assumption is that I am not accepted since the two buttons did not appear! We will see....darn, I really loved that school!
  17. My admissions decison is in the mail from DU. Has anyone heard if it is true that all people who are accepted will have the two buttons of "accept admission" "deny admission" after their application status has been changed to "Application Decison: Not Available"?? I do not have these buttons so I am a little freaked out!! Does everyone get this change or does it happen for just some people? Thanks!
  18. How exciting!! I just submitted my application! A little late....BUT all is well I am a little scared about hearing back from any school...so many are competitive! I am also in the process of publication “A Guide for Tranisition and Assistive Technology into Vocational Rehabilitation”! I am hoping I have a chance of being admitted and hearing back soon
  19. I had my phone interview last week (I request this!) and I was told I would find out by this Friday! yayyy! Good luck to everyone!
  20. I am waiting also! I hear that USC and UCLA are quite hard to get into. Yikes! I wonder what their acceptance rate is!
  21. Has anyone had an acceptance from University of Denver? I am told that online, when you are accepted, that your admissions decison changes to "not available" and then there are two buttons on the bottom of the page to accept or decline offer? Is this true for everyone accepted or just some? My admissions decison was made and my letter was mailed out (still waiting) but I do not have the accept or decline buttons on the bottom of the page!! EEEEEKKK. help!
  22. Did you hear back from University of Denver yet?
