  1. Saw in the acceptance thread that all interviews have already been sent out for Rutgers.
  2. Congrats!!! Did you apply early?? Or did you submit your app December 15th? The reason I'm asking is because some programs have rolling admissions and I want to get an idea of the deadlines and admissions
  3. I don because it allows professor the opportunity to ACTUALLY get to know the applicants. SOPs are so restrictive, and grades and GRE scores are oftentimes misleading.
  4. I know UI-Chicago is doing rolling admissions, so maybe UIUC too??
  5. I just got off the phone with UCSB and UIC!! UCSB is making their decision in the next week or two, and UIC is making their decision at the end of January.
  6. I feel you... I have this page and the admissions results one bookmarked on my phone... Anyways, expect to hear back from the January 15th apps no sooner than the end of February. Maaaaaybe 2nd or 3rd week if they don't have a lot of applicants, but yeah, late Feb beginning of March is when they usually have them (I called most of the programs and that's what they said).
  7. Congrats!!! I hope to hear back from then soon! Did they send you any info on funding?
  8. Hey so I was wondering if anyone was going to be presenting at ESS in New york this year. Also, did anyone get information on the travel awards yet???
  9. That really sucks... I was hoping for at least one early notification...
  10. They usually send you a financial aid package about a week after sending you the letter of acceptance. If you don't get it by then, it's ok to send them an e-mail, I guess.
  11. From what I've heard from my advisers, programs put a lot of weight in the quant section of the GRE, not only because it is needed for sociological research, but also because there is a well known algorithm that predicts future success in a grad program (operationalized by future GPA). The equation takes in consideration GREV, GREQ, MAT score (if available) and letters of recommendation (which are all assigned scores based on how good or bad they are). Anyways, after running statistical analysis on this data, it seems like the only variable that has statistical significance is the GRE Quant. In other words, GRE Quant is the variable that better predicts applicants success (again, good future GPA). The second significant variable is letters of recommendation, that's why you see people with relatively low GREQ getting into programs, because they have outstanding letters from key people. But they usually don't care about a relatively low GREV, because it has no significance for predicting applicants' success.
  12. Social movements; race and ethnicity; development; culture.
  13. yeah, sorry. I meant to say December every time I said January.
  14. Very few schools have sent out e-mails so far. I wouldn't worry about it until the beginning of February, then I'll start to freak out, but only about the schools that had an early admission (Jan Dec 1st - 15th). Has anyone heard back from UC Santa Barbara??? They had a super early application deadline (Jan Dec 1st). Edit: I meant to say December every time I said January.
  15. Has anyone claimed that UI-UC acceptance??? Does anyone know if UI-Chicago has sent anything yet???
  16. Yeah! I applied to the Critical Theory cluster. Fingers crossed!!!
  17. Dear FeministCorgi, How do you know you've been rejected from Emory?? Did they send you anything? Or you just haven't been contacted to do the interview??
  18. Awesome! congrats!! did you apply to any clusters at Northwestern??
  19. What other schools did you apply to? Care to share your stats (GRE, GPA, conferences, publications...)????
  20. my friend applied to women studies at Emory and she hasn't heard back either. I heard that they have been really busy and will be sending out e-mails either tomorrow or Monday!!!
  21. I feel the same way and my boyfriend keeps laughing at me because of my mental state right now... glad to know I'm not alone!
