  1. Contrats to everyone who has been accepted! I just wanted to stop in and find out if anyone has heard any news about BGSU Rhetoric and Writing program? It's past April 15th and I have not received any word. I only saw one acceptance on the results search. Seems kind of late in the game. Can I assume I'm waitlisted or out?
  2. No problem. I would give it until April 15 before you get too concerned. Like I said, you can check in if you like but the committee is still likely deciding. If it gets too desperate we should all make a pact to call each others schools to find out information that way none of us are at risk of getting cut from schools we didn't apply to anyways. How's that for critical thinking and outside of the box solutions to complex issues? Lol...I'm only kidding. I know it's frustrating but hang in there. You'll get an answer.
  3. I actually contacted my school, but was careful to contact the department secretary rather than a professor. I though this would be the lease intrusive way to get information, especially since everyone says not to call. In my case, I had been waiting about three months so I took my chances. As it turns out, the secretary was friendly and informed me that the committee is still very much in the first round of selection and that I should hear something by April 15. She even explained why the process tends to take so long. I had for so long thought that I was waitlisted or rejected (because we tend to fear the worst) but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. I would say that if your application has been out for as long as mine, then you might not have a lot to lose by checking in with the secretary. Just make ONE call or inquiry and don't badger or make demands of them (including decision dates). I highly doubt they'd reject you for checking in unless you come off as rude or annoying. The biggest mistake you can make is assuming the committee has made a decision about you. They have not forgot about you and It's not over until say send you a letter saying it's over. Hope this helps.
  4. I found it appropriate to post here as there has been total silence from my department. No acceptances, rejections or waitlists posted at all and it's late March. It sort of plays with your head when the head because I can't be sure if anyone has been notified or not, though it seems late in the season. At this point I don't know if I have been waitlisted, rejected, if the committee has even looked at my app, or if I've been lost altogether. Application deadline was back in January so...tick tock...lol
  5. Has anyone applied for the Ph.D program at BGSU? So far I haven't seen anything on the results page for this year. Usually, they will have posted something by this time. I'm hoping they are just super busy but it's getting late in the season and I've chewed my nails to the quick already. Please drop a line if you have any information. Thanks.
  6. Has anyone applied for a Master's or Ph.D program in the English Department at Bowling Green State University this year? So far nobody I spoke with has heard anything. Please drop a line if anyone has any info. Thanks.
  7. I'm thinking the third week of March might be appropriate. I've seen that most students who don't hear anything by April are pretty much waitlisted or rejected in my program anyway.
  8. I'm glad others are chiming in on this issue. Every day seems like a week and every week seems like a month. I have heard conflicting arguments about contacting schools. Some say it's okay to communicate with them as long as you don't "pester" and simply inquire about your status. A few have said they got a faster response by doing so, while others say to stay away unless it's life and death. The submission deadline for my program ended Jan. 15, but there have been no postings at all for my program on the results page so far. I have considered sending a quick email mid march if I don't hear anything, but is two months still considered too early? Of course, this is a bit extended anxiety because I turning in my material about six weeks before the deadline and I wonder to myself if everything got there okay and didn't get lost or sorted in the wrong box. Anyway, I feel a bit stuck because certain scholarships and financial incentives are available but carry a March 30 deadline and require proof of acceptance. I feel your pain and just wanted to ask- Is there ever a length of time when it is okay to contact the school?
  9. Hi all, I just wanted to stop in and see if anyone has applied to, or heard anything from, the Bowling Green State University Ph.D Rhetoric and Writing program? I have been waiting for quite a while and have not heard anything, nor have I seen anything posted on the forums or results page. Many thanks to anyone who can help out.
  10. Update-Communications applicants are starting to get notified (2/14). Hopefully another round of acceptances will come next week. P.S- Has anyone applied within the English Department? If so, I'd be most thankful for an update to your status.
  11. UPDATE-Philosophy and Media program admissions are now being sent out! Keep an eye out all prospective BGSU applicants.
  12. UPDATE: BGSU has started notifying Kinesiology applicants!
  13. Update- Looks like BGSU Psychology department admissions is kicking off now.
  14. Thanks for the update. Hopefully we can keep this going as I have heard that BGSU does sometimes give notices late in the game. I applied for the Ph.D in Rhetoric and Writing some time ago but noticed that mid-February was about the time people started posting on Grad Cafe. Still, some programs from BGSU have already started giving out interviews dates. BGSU also seemed pretty friendly and down to earth when talking to me. The staff was very helpful with my application questions. I guess it's a matter of how many people apply and what the admissions board is looking for. My hope is that they will appreciate some diversification in terms of educational background and culture. Keep me posted on what you hear and I will do the same. BTW-A BGSU student informed me that grads can check their admission status on the undergraduate admissions status page. I confirmed that this does indeed work for grads, but it only says that my application is under review at the moment.
  15. Thanks Alias. I'm sorry if I seem a bit behind on the BGSU system, but where did you access the results page. Thus far the only thing I can view is the graduate admissions page verifying that I paid my fees. I did get an email stating that they received all of my materials and would let me know if they needed anything else. I look forward to hearing back from you on this as there may be something online I'm just not seeing. Also, are you located near Bowling Green? Thanks.
  16. You may be over-stressing a bit here...lol. You can usually reschedule an interview or visit as long as you don't make them wait too long. At the same time, be cautious about slow rolling schools who do want you. I have talked to students who became so enamored by the "dream school" that they missed out on good opportunities. This doesn't seem to be the exact case with you, but I always give fair warning when I hear the term "dream school" because the reality may not be as fantastic once you are in. Several students report the second, or even third choice, turned out to be the right one. Without being preachy, evaluate all the schools who accept you with the same enthusiasm as your first choice. Do keep track of deadlines and take some solace in the fact that most schools will won't drop an interview/visit date on you all the sudden. You will have some wiggle room.
  17. I'm coming into this conversation a little bit late but I have heard decisions can take as long as mid March. The process is dynamic to say the least so it's really hard to lay down a specific date holistically. It depends largely on your school because they have to look at things like space (number of applications), funding, assistantships, and of course vetting what applicants fit their research/study criteria. Also, there is some inner working on their end. For instance, they may have a committee and so all members must be present or at least get eyes on the pool of applicants. Some profs may have scheduling issues, etc. to get this properly set up. On occasion, some grad schools will also give students who need to update or correct pending information a little bit of time to do so before making decisions. Now, I am not saying this is the case with EVERY school, but these are some of the issues that determine response times. These are just some things I have seen or heard about when I from my previous chair (Masters) and from working in and around the graduate office at my previous campus. Still, I am just as nervous watching the clock and calendar tick by as I wait...lol. Hope this helps.
  18. Does anyone know when Bowling Green State University starts sending out letters? I am applying for the Ph.D in Rhetoric and Writing, but would like to know when/if anyone applying to any department has heard anything. I know it's only January, but maybe those of us applying to BGSU can keep updating each other through this thread. Thanks to everyone and good luck!
