  1. Not sure...I think it's an average.
  2. Yes, from what I understand, all applicants who got through the first round get feedback from three reviewers. A bit nervous about it but hopefully the feedback will help us to create a stronger application if we need to resubmit in November. I've heard that some people get really mixed feedback tho...what one person liked the next might poke holes into...so I guess you have to weigh that as best as you can.
  3. So we should be finding out final results from the May deadline in the next week or so right? Eeeek! Nerves are wrecked.
  4. Mine went to the spam folder but I received an email yesterday saying I got through Round 1...now for the tough part....waiting and praying the more specialized readers don't rip my proposal to shreds.
  5. So my fulbright advisor said it might work against us to say that we were an alternate in a past cycle (it would presumptuous or something like that). Any thoughts on this? Any evidence that mentioning it has worked in the past? Just curious!
  6. Yea, I'm an alternate too, but for Argentina. I didn't get any contact information with my status update though. Strange. I kinda figured we all got the same generic email. Is Anna Valiante just the program director for Panama or for the region? I may have been confused by that.
  7. Well, bummer. That's great to know that she'd be willing to help us rework our applications though. I'd love to get some feedback to make it stronger for this next round. Just curious, where did you find the contact information for the program director? Thanks!
  8. Hi Photogeographic! You may want to consider reaching out to your former FPA...even if you are not going through the university this time. You may be able to see if they have files from interviewing/screening you in the past. Just a thought!
  9. Hey everyone, another current alternate. I'm going to reapply this year for a research grant to Argentina and am debating how much to change my application. I've set up a meeting with people at my university who screened me this last year to get feedback. I don't know if that's a useful plan for anyone else. I'll let y'all know how it goes!
  10. Hey Stopthat, thanks and glad to hear there are others in the same boat. It's crazy to think this puts research plans for my degree off for another year, but I guess it is what it is. Here's to keeping our fingers crossed while remaining realistic and not letting other opportunities pass us!
  11. So it's been a little over a month since I heard about my alternate status. I think chances of being bumped up to (P) begin to get considerably slimmer from here on out. Damn this blind hope...it's making my other grant applications that much harder. For those who applied a second time and were successful, any tangible advice on improving your submission (i.e. more letters of affiliation, more concrete research description, more about your personal development, etc.)? Your advice is greatly appreciated! - A super bummed and unrealistically hopeful (A)
  12. So helpful! thank you for posting! I thought most of the Latin American countries did this but it sounds like its much less widespread than I thought. I'm breathing a bit easier about not hearing about an interview.
  13. Hi waiting279 and thanks! I have a friend currently doing an ETA in Colombia and she said that Skype interviews were pretty regular and that she was contacted to do one immediately after hearing about her recommendation. She said it was a total of 8 minutes and basically seemed to confirm a basic mastery of the Spanish language. I assummed that other Latin American countries might be similar....has anyone else recommended for research or ETA in Latin America been asked to do an interview? Thanks everyone!
  14. Hey everyone! I was recommended for a research grant to Argentina but haven't heard anything from the in-country agency. I was expecting to perhaps hear something about a Skype interview because I hear that's the next step. Has anyone else heard about interviews yet? Really hoping for the best! Good luck all!
  15. Anyone else get through the first round? Getting anxious to hear about my status. Has anyone heard from the in-country agency yet? Good luck everyone!
