  1. It's hard work, but if you can get a serving job at a restaurant with high prices, you can actually make good money.
  2. I just declined my offer, hope that helps someone.
  3. I just looked at my portal and I didn't see anything, where was it posted?
  4. Does anyone know when ASU decides about funding?
  5. Unless I get surprised with some funding, I too will be declining.
  6. Me too Rubyslp. I'm also out-of-state, luckily I have another school I'm considering, but I'd really like to know where I stand with ASU.
  7. The waiting game is cruel. Sorry, you guys are still waiting.
  8. Yep, me too, just checked again and I have been admitted! Not yet able to access Admit Letter. Does anyone know if ASU offers any kind of funding?
  9. For me, it's not worth taking on extra debt unless the other school has a professor or research or a specific training focus that you are looking to get involved in.
  10. Uf, moving from California. Are you ready for the cold?
  11. I'm still in review. I have had all my other results for weeks and I just want to have all the information and make my final decision.
  12. That's strange... here's to hoping they tell us all on Monday or something.
  13. My overall GPA was 3.93 when I applied (3.95 now), Verbal: 168, Quantitative: 155. My experience includes volunteering for 2 months in orphanages in Mexico (including a special needs home), a semester abroad in Spain, research with two professors (just experience, no thesis), 25 shadowing hours, president of the Spanish club, participation in many language conversation activities. As far as how fluent, not a native speaker. I started learning in high school, but didn't speak any Spanish until AP Spanish. I worked and work very hard to find opportunities for myself to learn. Compared to other undergrads in my department, I am more fluent. I lived with a Senora in Spain, who was very demanding, so that helped with the learning process, believe it or not. I also had two language exchanges in Spain. I currently host conversation tables with my club and attend a Columbus-based Spanish meetup. UT Austin does not have an interview, they determine fluency when you arrive, which means you have to accept without knowing you're in. They are generally not very student friendly from my experience. They do not decide funding until after you accept. Indiana U has been the opposite, very helpful, and Dr. Anderson was willing to be meet with me before I'd even applied. The interview consisted of general questions about your Spanish experience, attempts and advice for learning Spanish, etc. It was not too intense, but certainly you had to be on your feet and ready. I received a packet in the mail about a week before when I was expecting it including my admission, acceptance to STEPS, and funding. Let me know if you have other questions, I'm always open to helping out.
  14. Thanks for the update. 3/5 of my schools notified in February. Come on Arizona State!
  15. Yep, but going to IU instead. I'm an undergrad there though.
  16. I will probably just be applying to an amusement park and getting lots of hours to save up for grad school. Not fun, but practical and I know I can quit with zero repercussions whenever makes the most sense b/c I won't be going back.
  17. I was notified via postal service to my permanent address. I received a packet including admission information, acceptance to the STEPS bilingual program, info about an open house, and funding information.
  18. Anyone else getting as impatient as I am. Goodness.
  19. I will be most likely be rejecting my acceptances to both UC and OSU in a few days if that helps anyone.
  20. Nope, heard that we were supposed to hear back mid-March, but I havn't heard anything.
  21. I received a fellowship to IU only, but I think it was a combination of numbers and all of my experience. Some places have so little funding that they start out with the numbers and then they choose based on other factors. That is my best guess anyway.
  22. Who got in? Are you planning on attending? Going to the open house? Thinking about housing?
  23. I'm admitted, but don't think I will be able to accept without knowing funding info, which they won't tell us until May.
