  1. I thought to calculate any triangle, you need three known value, either two angles and a side or two sides and an angle. In this particular case, A=0.5 x sin 60 x 5 x 12=15sqrt(3)
  2. I used one of the earlier ones (back in 2012). They are pretty decent, I meant expensive ultrabook are just as pretty as macbook, except that it doesnt have the generic look of a macbook. I used couple different laptops for the past 3 years. Zenbook : I dont like their light colors, specs-wise theyre all similar, keyboard rather shallow. Macbook pro 13 : thicker than general ultrabook, keyboards just awesome, look too generic. Samsung ATIV : like the dark color full metal body, keyboard shallow. acer s7 : gorilla glass surface feels classy, keyboard are decent.
  3. If you felt strongly connected towards a program you'll end up spending a tremendous amount of time polishing your application towards that particular program. I am particularly guilty of this, I put different kind of priority in my first choice program, things like personal statement was tailored toward that program, whereas my personal statement for other applications is simply a modified form of it. According to my general observation, you would have pretty similar chance to be accepted into any of those top 20 programs if you have those GPA 3.8+, GRE 80%+, 1-2 years of research experience and those not-so-generic recommendation letters. Other positive factors could only boost your application even more.
  4. Being a poor international student, it's kinda frustrating to realize relatively late that you'd still have to apply for OPT to work any minimum wage job before your program starts. Well, at least I got something to look forward to in the Fall I suppose.
  5. My understanding is that the fall quarter starts on 30 September right? Is it normal to worry about place to live now? I am just wondering when I should start to actively look for a place. I was told by a current graduate student who spend $1200 on grad apartment that he still managed to save money on that 2k-ish stipend a month.
  6. Chemistry here. Our funding info was incorporated into the acceptance letter. Fall in love with university when they arrange open house visit all paid for - I am a simple man. When is everyone going to look for housing for the fall quarter?
