  1. I'm frustrated that I can't find a really good one that I once read that was written as an academic article. If you're interested in stuff from journals and have unrestricted access from your university, I recommend browsing through PS: Political Science and Politics, since they have lots of articles about students, if you're not already.
  2. Hey, that might mean you'll get an acceptance from Arizona sometime soon. Where else did you apply?
  3. Just go ahead and apply for it ;~}. Tomorrow I will fill out a form for a special grant to one of the universities that has already started doing interviews and such because the deadline for that grant has not yet arrived. At worst I waste an hour, but that's not much. Actually, I applied to Chicago too so I may also complete the FLAS application even though I'm really not expecting to be accepted.
  4. Congrats on the Chicago acceptance! Was hoping to hear from FSU today, but it looks like maybe the week is over.
  5. There's a page on myFSU called "Admissions Online Status Check," but it's only showing me the things I uploaded for the application. I also just noticed that I never sent them 'official' transcripts--I wonder if that's going to be a problem.
  6. Looks like Austin usually starts releasing decisions early in the second week of February.
  7. Not yet. During the past few years, they have started releasing decisions in the first week of February.
  8. That's right, there's still a long way to go!
  9. Just rejected from Berkeley. I think I'm going to turn my computer off for the rest of the week now :~P.
  10. Did you apply to other programs as well? Don't worry mate, I was rejected there too and of course my youthful narcissistic rage was off the charts ;~}. Just have to sublimate it into something productive and everything will turn out fine.
  11. That sucks. I was really hoping for next week too.
  12. Congrats, ZS! That's a great program.
  13. I'm hoping we'll get UCLA, Berkeley, and UCSD next week, though San Diego will probably be the week after.
  14. Although I haven't really looked into it (the horror . . .), I'm sure there's some worthy work-experience to be gained with a BA alone. I have actually done the teaching abroad thing a few times, and I personally don't recommend it for myriad reasons, and I especially can't see it helping much after getting a BA. That's an avenue that I think will close more doors than it opens.
  15. Plans B and C are try again next year and the year after. Plan D is pull an Arthur Rimbaud.
  16. Not holding my breath for Duke. Although last year decisions were released about this time, in previous years it was the beginning of February. We might have to wait until next week.
  17. Same here: applied to all the UC's with the exception of Davis and Merced, though for Irvine I applied in sociology, and the other three you mention. It looks like our apps won't be in much competition though since I applied in IR/CP. My stats are pretty modest too, which is why I cast a large net. Good luck! I hear that having solid employment can offset other factors such as lower GPA.
  18. Fancy that; my neuroticism requires me to be attached to the computer almost all day, so I totally understand. What programs have you applied to?
  19. Congrats! I'm crossing my fingers on Boulder; telling myself that maybe they haven't gotten to mine yet because my name is at the bottom of the list ;~}.
  20. It must be an Ivy thing; Columbia and Brown both seem to send out decisions in the last week of February. Let's hope Princeton at least continues making earier announcements.
  21. I applied several weeks ago. I don't think it or any other polsci PhD programs have rolling admissions, but since their deadline is still a few days away I doubt you would be excluded if you haven't applied yet or if you did just recently. I was surprised to hear back so soon myself. edit: In the email they sent me to set up an interview, they mentioned that they have not started making any decisions. Probably they are just getting a head start on the interviewing process for some candidates.
  22. Some of my intership experience has involved working with policy-oriented professionals, and many of them had polsci MAs or even PhDs. My suspicion is that academics tend to overestimate the correlation between degree and career (i.e., that degree x leads specifically to career y) when in non-academic fields your skills and experience matter much more. I am academically inclined myself, so maybe someone with more policy experience might agree that an MPA or something is indeed a big help.
  23. Yeah, I applied to Princeton and Vanderbilt. Good luck!
  24. It looks like UW and MSU passed me by, too. I haven't heard anything from Notre Dame yet either. I do have an interview with Binghamton soon though, and I'm actually pretty excited about that program. Congratulations to all those who have been accepted so far.
