  1. Yeah, about there
  2. You certainly can accept it, but most wouldn't advise going into debt to pay for a PhD. They understand that without funding, most will probably not accept the offer. You could, however, look for external funding such as non-department fellowships sources under which scenario going to the program in question may be advisable. You have been accepted to the program, but it's really only advisable to go if you have some sort of funding source.
  3. Makes sense. I was just kinda surprised to see the name
  4. Just rejected from Seattle. Not a surprise. It was already off my list anyways. The thing that did surprised me is that Michael McCann, ho is a giant in judicial politics and public law, wrote the email. Accepted: Notre Dame, Missouri, Colorado, UC Irvine Waitlisted: WashU-STL Rejected: Princeton, Michigan, Univ of Washington Pending: Brandeis, USC
  5. It means they've accepted you but they don't have funding for you yet. They probably want you in their department but they aren't dumb and realize what not offering you funding would mean
  6. What are one's odds of being admitted off the wait list at any given program? Is it legitimately 50/50 or does it tilt 60/40 or 70/30 in one direction or the other?
  7. I was just waitlisted to WashU.
  8. I actually teach a community college class on Fridays, so this issue is very real for me. How have I handled it thus far? Well I'm not going to do any sort of visit with Colorado because I've already 100 percent ruled it out. UCI is a local program, so I am attending any events scheduled not during the time of my class. Notre Dame is my top choice of programs I've gotten into and luckily their visiting day is a day on which I have an exam scheduled, so I got a fellow adjunct to cover for me. At Mizzou, I am not going to the visit day, but may skype in for some events and will contact POIs and grad students to get a feel for the program. If I get into any other schools, I plan to try to get them to fly me out on the weekend of my CC's Spring Break. Luckily I think USC might do a Sat., Sun, Mon thing, so I won't be affected. So Tl:Dr, a variety of ways.
  9. So I think UW-Seattle is handling their admissions exactly the wrong way, whereas Michigan handled theirs exactly right. Michigan sent out their rejections and acceptances within 15 minutes of each other, so as soon as the decision was made, you knew. UW-Seattle more than likely has accepted their top choices to the program and are waiting to see how many accept/decline the offer while not rejecting anyone. More than likely 90+ precent of those who have not been offered admissions already will be rejected, but they are waiting to send out a blanket rejection until they know that they have filled up the cohort, so even though most who have heard nothing have a 0 percent chance of getting into the University of Washington, we probably won't know that we've been rejected until like mid March. If you ask me, that isn't the way to treat people who applied to your program. I'm thankful that I don't care much about the outcome that much and can't imagine how much anxiety I would have if it were my top choice. I really don't think that style of admissions is fair to applicants.
  10. Awesome! Sounds like the day really turned around for you
  11. So it seems highly likely that I'm going to hear from WashU sometime tomorrow. I am extremely nervous.
  12. I thought that was just a shell website to see if your letters had been submitted. You actually saw your application status in that?
  13. Wait.....there's a portal?
  14. Are you sure? I thought looking at the thread that it looked like they usually made decisions all in one day, but I could be specifying my search wrong.
  15. Well, seeing as I already have a really good offer, I'm going to assume rejection and be pleasantly surprised if this one comes through.
  16. Congrats! How long ago was the call? Any inside info?
  17. American Politics. Particularly Racial Politics and Public Law
  18. @toad1 that's like me and the University of Washington. I'm more interested in what happens than I actually care about the result. It looks like South Bend or St. Louis (depending on if I get into WashU) for me, though an acceptance to Brandeis or USC might change my mind (probably not though)
  19. On further thought, this might be a situation in which it is best to call and ask
  20. I don't think all the decisions have been made, but if you haven't been accepted, it's not looking good.
  21. Fun fact: my early SOP was littered with minor typos (6+) that I found and corrected as time went on. I have been accepted to two of the programs where there were a bunch of typos and rejected from two that were relatively clean. I guess it doesn't matter that much after all.
  22. Agreed. I'm glad I was rejected on the same day
  23. I was just rejected too. This one hurts more than Princeton. 4a/2r/0w/6 Pending
