  1. I got a Domino's Coupon, but no Michigan acceptance
  2. So WashU-STL's website says that they aim to have results out by the first week in February. Between 2010 and 2015, it looks like their results were routinely released between Jan 31 and Feb 6. But over the last two years, they have started to release them later, more like around the 14th through the 17th. How would one read this?
  3. Does anyone have any inside info on WashU-STL or Michigan? These are basically the main two I'm looking out for, otherwise, it's probably Notre Dame for me. (Though I'll see what Brandeis and USC offer me if I get in)
  4. Congratulations! That is awesome. Did you interview?
  5. I totally feel like I'm about to be rejected from UW-Seattle
  6. Not being accepted or rejected for some programs means that they do not have a decision for you yet. EG schools may have decided on their top 20 candidates for 20 slots and they're waiting to see how many of the 20 accept. If only 10 accept, they'll send out another ten acceptances, and repeat this process until they fill the class. If you haven't been accepted or rejected, it may mean that they like your profile, but they want to make sure their class will be small, so they are holding out on offering you admissions until they hear back from other candidates. This may be a form of an informal wait list, but some school's don't do wait lists while others are extremely cautious about cohort size. Other programs accept different subfields at different times. If you haven't been Accepted or Rejected after both have been sent out, it's really tough to say what the situation is. Wish I could give you a better answer.
  7. So what are we expecting this week? Highly Likely: Pitt UT Austin WashU-STL More from the Univ. of Washington UChicago More from Notre Dame Plausible but not exceedingly likely USC UCLA Michigan Indiana Virginia
  8. Given the department's poor placement in the wake of the data falsification scandal, that's just the shot in the arm that they need.
  9. Martin Gilens is moving to UCLA?
  10. I'm kinda assuming rejection from Univ. of Washington, but I'm not 100% certain that I should
  11. @Albert01, Michigan, which has historically been a top 5 program. It's basically the birthplace of opinion polling and Political Psychology. MIT is a good program too, but the consensus is that Michigan is better
  12. Either have a Nobel Prize or donate a library
  13. I only have an MA, but I'd say learning statistics programs and familiarizing yourself with the core litterature are probably the two best things you can do.
  14. If I may ask anyone who has been accepted to multiple institutions, what is your current power ranking of schools you have been accepted to, based on likeliness to attend. For me: 1. Notre Dame 2. Missouri 3. Irvine 4. Colorado
  15. I'm losing hope for Univ. Of Washington, but that's okay since I got into a program that is a better fit for me today anyways. Congrats to those who got in!
  16. Admitted at Notre Dame with a good funding offer. I'm so happy! 4a/1r/0w/ 5 pending
  17. Me too. To be real it was a long shot and not the best fit of the long shots for me. Still wish I'd have gotten in. 3a/1r/0w/6 Pending
  18. I've gotten an offer (without funding Info) and an interview request on a Sunday, so even if we don't hear back today, you never know
  19. Nada. Hope to hear soon, since it's probably my #1 choice
  20. Thanks to @Encyclopedia Brown and @PoliSci-freak for the helpful info and tips. As for Univ of Washington, I have heard from people with inside info that they will be releasing decisions soon. I was not interviewed, but I've been told not to read too much into that. Best of luck.
  21. Does anyone know anything about negotiating funding packages? There are a couple of programs I applied to (Univ. Of Washington and CU Boulder (where I have been accepted)) that are very good programs, but seem to offer poor funding relative to the cost of living. If they threw me, say, $5K more than they throw most attendees I would consider them, but if not, they simply aren't viable options. I don't want to live in Seattle on a funding package that equates to less than minimum wage. Boulder's funding seems to be equally bad if not worse. So are these things that flexible or is it difficult to change your offer?
  22. I expect WashU and Univ. of Washington any day now, perhaps even today. USC next week, Notre Dame and Michigan the following and Brandeis in the last week of Feb/first week of March
  23. There is a lot of stress and everything going around right now, so to make you guys feel a little better I want to tell you my story. I was an AP scholar with distinction in high school and entered to one of the best public universities in the country with sophomore standing, but couldn't even get into my state's flagship (Cal is tough to get into). Once I got to college I struggled academically and put more focus on extra curriculars. At one point I had a 2.6 GPA. But I began to turn it around about the time I started interning in the state legislature. I thought my academic career would end with undergrad until I wanted to write a senior thesis and the Political Science department convinced me to take a grad seminar instead. I loved it, but I didn't do particularly well. I got an AB, which is like the B+/A- range at my undergrad institution. I realized that I wanted to go back to grad school, but thought that this was another 5 to 10 years or so away. Then I graduated. My first job out of college was working on my last political campaign, and I hate campaign work, so I was miserable. I decided to move back home. I was unemployed for six months until I got a job in a law firm that I also hated. I decided to go back to grad school a lot sooner than I expected, but I knew what I wanted to do- teach undergrads. So I enrolled in the closest MA program to my house. When I got there, I put in the work and I excelled. I earned a 3.9 GPA, presented work at seven different conferences and became the first student in the program's history to get an article under peer review (though I have yet to publish anything). Now, I'm 24. I'm have a master's. I have been admitted to three PhD programs already and I am starting a semester long job as an adjunct professor at a local Community College. If you had told me at basically any point in my undergrad career that I could achieve these things so quickly, I would not have believed you. Is my first job out of grad school going to be at NYU? Probably not. But I'm still proud of how far I have come and I know I have it in me to go farther. So I know rejection stings. I hope no one strikes out on the cycle, but some of us may. But above all else, pick yourself up, lick your wounds and keep going! Maybe some of us will decide that we don't want to be academics after all. That's okay as long as you do what you love and go as far as you can with it. Your life isn't over because you didn't get into Princeton or even if you don't get in anywhere. If the latter is the case, work hard and either try again next cycle or go do something else you like. This is a particularly tough profession, but it's tough to do anything well. We have to be resilient. I want to remind people who are being rejected from top schools that there are plenty of good programs and those who see the rejections piling up without an acceptance that all it takes is one! So please, please, please, don't lose hope.
  24. I have just been admitted to the University of Colorado- Boulder 3a/0r (though Princeton looks like a reject)/ 0w, 7 pending (6 without Princeton)
