SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship/CGS Doctoral Scholarship 2017/2018
CrunchCrunch replied to SadieLou's topic in The Bank
Thanks, I stand corrected though, it might have even been my 4th attempt. I was waitlisted last year; rejected by my department the year before; and waitlisted as a direct applicant the first time. Just keep at it. Good luck! -

Mail came! I got a doctoral fellowship, score 13.4/20. the wait is over. Thank goodness. thanks for the great company everyone, best of luck to those that are still waiting and congrats to those who were successful. For those who were not, I will reiterate it's a crapshoot. This was my 3rd year applying. -

Oh yes. Mail will arrive around noon-ish; will report back but might shake my fist at mailperson if no envelope big, medium or small manifest in my mailbox. Honestly, a vial of skunk stink would suffice to communicate "you suck". Just tell me already. -

Ditto for Toronto, or the sad part of Toronto that doesn't get letters, and by that part I mean the centrally located area of the city. Not bitter at all. -

I can't even...why are some of us in Toronto still waiting while NORTHERN CALIFORNIA has received post? Do we not share a province, Ottawa? I'm beyond baffled at this warping of space-time. Happy, though, for everyone who has heard. -

Nothing yet, in TORONTO. OMG. (and I don't know my results yet). -

There are still those waiting in Ontario. When they say 3 business days, they really mean it (and by 'they' I mean Canada Post). -

Crazy that the letters reached Montreal earlier than Ottawa! -

Thank you for the information. I can now (sort of) focus on other things. Tomorrow. EEK! -

Congrats to everyone who has received positive news! Have any other cities besides Montreal received their letters? I'm assuming those in Ottawa have... -

Totally. It could still go either way. Early news is not always good news, that's fair and true. Still, I think it's "fun" to try and figure out their temporal correlations and patterns. -

Statistically speaking, that's not really possible; overall, the success rate (and failure rate) is around 50%. I hope as many people HERE get good results, and as soon as possible. I looked at Canada Post delivery speed, and it is painfully slow. 2 business days for the same city, 3 business days for the same province and 4 for the country, and that's not including the day it was sent! -

It's beginning to look that way, so far it sounds like those who have been informed are indeed successful. -

Boo for that, but congrats on the CGS! -

Was this your department coordinator? The schools definitely have the results but some are willing/able to inform students, others are not. Which is obviously very frustrating. -

For what it's worth, I don't think the schools have been informed either (by email). I contacted the awards officer yesterday, and she said she has not heard yet. More waiting. -

I'm too scared! From past forums, a non-response ("you will hear from SSHRC directly") seems to suggest a rejection. I don't want to do it! -

How exciting. Now I really want to email the award's officer (Monday, of course). Good luck everyone! -

Really? What university? I'm not surprised. It seems like every university has different policies. Maybe if you do hear from the Uni first it's a good sign... -
Obviously, I get what you're saying, but it's a time-cost analysis - let's say you want to get into a school but you don't want to spend the money to travel; well what if visiting the school means that you really click with that professor and you don't have to apply again the following year? I'm not trying to minimize the cost/time aspects, but it's one of those things, in my opinion, is one thing I regret not doing. So, this is just my two cents, if I had a do-over, that's what I would do. Spend the money and fly and meet professors (obviously, tell them you're coming so they are there and you have an appointment).

But post is better than email, I think. At least you can't obsessively refresh. -

I'm happy it's Friday. Do we think letters are going out next week? Does this mean people will actually receive letters next week?
