I too had a reject from GATech....no funding they said..just got a reject from UT Austin today...good luck to you though

The AQES group under Prof M. Rood in the Civil and Env Engg dept in UIUC.. Prof Rood will be co-instructing me along with Dr. Kolotsou-Vakakis.. I am in touch with a few PhD students there as well..

I have been offered a funding of 11 month 50% support - I have a fellowship that covers half my stipend and an RA(reads 25%) to cover the other half..how do I interpret that??

Didnt realize that there are people like me who are facing PASD!! Considering everyone around me thought I was a fool to feel any other emotion apart from 'being ecstatic'!!! Survival mechanisms:- 1. Been having an overdose of really expensive creamy pasta nearly every week at this cafe i love to lounge around in ...all alone!! 2. Been yelling at all loved ones...followed by a deep, long sleep.. 3. On a more serious note- 25 laps in the pool every day followed by 3 hours of classical dance on weekends!!

Im Srinidhi...from Mumbai, India...I have been admitted to the PhD program in the Civil and Env Engg dept...will be a part of the Air Quality group out there.. I was pretty thrilled when I was told on the day of the telephonic interview that my prospects there were very bright by the prof. who had called..they have offered me a fellowship in the first year itself( which I heard is pretty rare..is that really true??). Ive been reading a bit about th e campus and the towns and its seems to be a quiet, beautiful place to be doing research in! Different from the hustle-bustle that I am so used to here in Mumbai!

Hi stresschicken, Situation sounds very familiar to me...it does feel streeful when you'd raher have 'we both' are going to XYZ university rather than 'oh I am going to XYZ univ'.. In case both the admits are from universities that rank high on your list, your should probably write to the faculty you are keen to work with..especially if you are going to take the PhD offer..Else it would be sensible for you to wait for say 2-3 weeks and see if your 'significant other' gets an admit (which I hope for you he does..) and for other decisions you may be expecting as well. But do keep note of the deadlines...

Hi, I have applied for a PhD in Environmental Engg with a fairly strong resume/Reco's... A professor from UIUC has written to me asking for a telephonic interview 'to know about my goals , intrests and prospects'..how should I be preparing for it?? The professor...truly speaking is a lecturer there...no PhD's have been awarded under her yet..has 2-3 students working towards it though..

I saw quite some threads on why a PhD/ how to apply and what after one... But what about those years while one is actually engaged in the research and hopes to get their hands on the elusive and coveted doctrate degree.... Common folks..experienced and amateur....do share your experiences and your fears...

I am 23 now..with a high probability of getting an admit (sounds arrogantly optimistic to state that!)...hope to be done by 26-27 years...am I hoping for a lot???
