  1. Me too! Was happy to wake up to an email from them this morning.
  2. As someone who's a bit older (27) with a family (wife and kid), I'd agree that eventually money becomes an issue. Even if I get some great offers, I still have to weigh the cost of putting off financial goals for another 5 plus years. And spending several more years attempting to find a TT position after that isn't feasible. Fortunately for me, I'm coming from a career field where a PhD is both beneficial and extremely valuable money wise. If I didn't have that to fall back on, I wouldn't even be considering this.
  3. Along this topic, one thing I'm going to have to do some research on is the value of health insurance. Or I guess more specifically, what it costs the university to provide that. To those of us with families, health insurance is a big deal; however, I already have good insurance through my wife's employer. I'd be interested to hear if anyone in a similar situation managed to turn the offer of health insurance into something they could actually use .
  4. Got the monkey off my back - admitted to ASU. I feel like a boulder has been lifted off my chest.
  5. Me...I had some beers for lunch though to take my mind off it.
  6. Cool Ranch is definitely overrated in that listing.
  7. If it makes you feel better, I'm just as anxious today as I was yesterday (probably more). Still haven't heard anything. I ate an entire bag of Doritos for breakfast this morning.
  8. While the top tier of programs are more likely to land you a job in academia, it really boils down to what you put into it. And if academia doesn't work out, there are other opportunities (government) and companies that would pay a premium for someone with a PhD (one specifically that jumps to mind are defense contractors specializing in intelligence).
  9. I envy all who've heard back from programs. My level of productivity has taken a nose dive over the past week as I anxiously await any news. Need that first decision so I can get back to normal...
  10. That sickening calm before the storm feeling.
  11. Man I was doing good lurking...until the first of my schools popped up on the results page with a few rejections (Arizona State). Now I'm more anxious than ever.
