  1. This point is really important. For some programs, as has been mentioned already, it will be impossible to make a definitive judgment based on ranking systems. Your decision, therefore, should take into account other factors like recent hires, faculty in other departments whose work might converge with your interests in some way, the receptivity of your POIs to your work, etc. For all the noise out there about the dominance of a small cadre of elite institutions in faculty hiring, I am one who still believes fit is an incredibly important downpayment on your academic career. Go where you grow!
  2. It's as real as it gets. Got an email from DGS: outstanding application, can't admit all outstanding apps, credentials will take you far, good luck on academic endeavors, yada yada yada.
  3. New to this thread! But I thought I'd join in on the waiting game. I applied to PhD programs in Political Science (one Combined PhD program in Poli Sci and AfAm). Interests are in political philosophy, African American political philosophy in particular, especially 19th and 20th century AfAm democratic intellectuals (Du Bois, Douglass, David Walker, Baldwin, King, etc). Hopefully this process will be over soon. The waiting stinks.
  4. I'm a PT applicant. Just declined my offer at Northwestern. Hope this helps.
  5. Virginia extended offers to those up for a fellowship. That's only 5 or 6. That's all I can speak to w/ certainty. I'm guessing more will follow very soon??? Contact has been through DGS and theorists in the Dept. No status updates on the website though. My letter came via DGS.
  6. Doesn't seem very likely for PhD programs. Perhaps for Masters or for programs with larger cohorts than the PhD. But given the fact that many programs accept initially by way of a POI and then officially through DGS or an admissions committee member, I don't see it happening.
  7. Thanks! I heard from the Fellowship coordinator at Virginia on Wednesday, from DGS yesterday. A little backwards but I'm not really complaining.
  8. In at UW. Email is from Chair of Department.
  9. Spent the summer in LA the last two years. I am JUST about sold
  10. Just heard from POI. Official offers will be extended between tomorrow/Friday!!
  11. Very strong! I'm thinking about Rogers and Panagia.
  12. Chicago is certainly one of those programs. And I hear Markell is among the best as far as mentors go. Who are you interested in working with at UCLA?
  13. New to the forum but it appears you folks are well on your way. The season has been rewarding for me, as well. I'm a Northwestern admit. And it appears that UW Seattle and UCLA are very promising, though nothing is official yet. We will see what comes of Cornell, UVA, and Yale. My broad interests are in History of Political Thought (Modern to Contemporary), with particular interest in questions of race and domination. Lately, I've been working through Dewey and Du Bois. Hoping the good news will keep rolling in.
  14. Northwestern admit as well. I'm in Theory.
