  1. Congrats In Hac! I was accepted to Georgia State tonight too -- also no mention of funding. It looks like they've offered funding to two other GC members already. Do you plan on emailing the DGS and asking about funding? I was unsure what to do. I can't really make an informed decision without knowing if they will fund me.
  2. Best news possible! The director of Clemson's RCID program emailed me today with an offer of admittance with a GTAship! My first choice!
  3. Thanks for posting this! You make some great points...and I think we're about the same age. It's great to know that everyone pursuing a PhD is not 25 years old.
  4. I struggled through The Satanic Verses, but I've heard such good things about Midnight's Children that I had to get the book.
  5. I thought I'd chime in because a good book is sometimes the only thing to distract me from checking my email every 5 minutes. I recently found a used bookstore near the campus where I teach, and I picked up a few books I've been meaning to read: Summertime (Coetzee), Song of Solomon (Morrison), and Midnight's Children (Rushdie). I'm halfway through Summertime, and it is definitely serving its purpose to distract me.
  6. I'm already an adjunct instructor (incidentally, at the college where I received my MA), so I will continue to teach here and apply again next year...ideally, with a publication and more conferences under my belt. There's nothing wrong with having a Plan B! I just hope that we all get into a PhD program.
  7. Congratulations! Mine too, jhefflol. I keep checking because of the acceptances posted here, but nothing has changed. I'm starting to think it's going to be a "no."
  8. I thought I'd weight in on this issue of accepting an unfunded MA acceptance. While I agree that relocating to an unfunded MA program would be unwise, I think applying to a local MA program is a good alternative. I received my MA from a local university (not even thinking about a future PhD), and it was a great experience. My first year was unfunded, but I had a GA position my second year. All this to say that I know it is not your dream, WT, but you may be unexpectedly blessed from the experience (more connections, writing opportunities, conferences, etc). I hope that we ALL get into a PhD program though...
  9. Thanks for the support, LCB, empress, lyonessrampant.
  10. Tequila, wine, scotch, and tight hugs. Got it.
  11. Thanks, lunalit and hypervodka! Every bit of encouragement helps.
  12. I got my first rejection. It feels so much worse than I thought it would. How do you all deal with rejection when it comes?
  13. University of Louisville rejected me! Boo!
  14. Just got my first rejection: University of Louisville. I didn't get an email, but I checked the website. Trying not to freak out too much or convince myself that I won't get into any program...
  15. Clemson is my first choice. I would be delighted if they accept me. I've heard such great things about the RCID program.
  16. Empress, I'm particularly interested in the space where Christian and queer communities converge -- and the rhetoric that both communities employ with regard to each other. Katla, comp lit is high up on my list of exciting topics. Po-co theory is my favorite -- I read Said for fun. Have you read his daughter's memoir by chance? I read it a few months ago and really enjoyed it. I have not read Remembering Matthew Shepard. I will have to look it up. Thanks for the suggestion! I like your research topic -- it is so relevant in a time where we hear differing viewpoints and try to make sense of them. Good luck with your schools! Thank you!! I find it pretty exciting too.
  17. LOVE this -- so, so true. Do you already have your MA, empress-marmot? Or are you looking to complete your MA and PhD at the same school? Where are you applying?
  18. Hi mmmscience. Where else have you applied besides Madison? As far as my research, I am concerned about the ways in which real-world issues are manifested in rhetorical and critical theory. I plan to focus on the space where rhetoric, religious studies, and queer theory converge. How about you? I, too, would love to hear about people's research.
  19. Welcome and congrats lunalit! I'm new to posting too, and I agree that this is a wonderfully supportive place.
  20. Thanks, bookworm! It's nice to have a place to commiserate and wait it out.
  21. I'm a Ph.D. applicant, bhr.
  22. Thank you, Wyatt's Torch!
  23. This thread seems a bit quiet, but I just wanted to add that I, too, am hoping to get into a Rhet/Comp program for the Fall 2015 term. Haven't heard anything yet!
