  1. I just got an email from University of Arizona informing me that I was awarded a substantial fellowship -- Wha?? I haven't received an acceptance email from them, so this fellowship email kind of took me off-guard? I'm wondering if I should call and ask more questions...or just wait and see if I get further emails? What do you all think?
  2. I'm glad you mentioned visiting schools to find out which one is "the one." I'm debating between two programs, and from what I can see, they are neck-in-neck. It is going to be SO tough to decide -- but both schools are flying me down to meet people and see the campus. I HOPE that I will know which one is "the one" after my visits. Good luck on your campus visits!
  3. Great discussion about ageism as well as the lack of transparency in this application process. Thanks to all for your insight. I'm 35, and I'll be 36 when I officially start my PhD program in the fall. I certainly hope that my age will not prevent me from getting a good job -- I've never really thought about it. I see my age as an asset, not as a liability. If a university doesn't want to hire me because of my age, they will be missing out on a real catch! Also, I was rejected from UMass today too. I expected it, but like you all have mentioned, I would have loved to know why OSU and UMass rejected me. I hate the form rejection letter.
  4. Congrats on all the acceptances today! What a good day for GC. Like Hannalore, I, too, was accepted to UT's program. They are offering me full funding and an additional fellowship. The program is a good "fit" for me, so it is going to be hard to make that decision. It's a blessing to be in this place though!
  5. Totally OT, but I love your username. I wrote my Master's thesis about Angels in America.
  6. Same here, mollifiedmolloy! I have essays to grade, and I'm on GC instead.
  7. Such amazing acceptances! Way to go everyone! Well, I finally heard back from GSU. Although they accepted me to their program they will be unable to offer me funding -- so no GSU for me! I'm thankful for my funding offer from Clemson, and I still have a lot of schools to hear back from. More waiting, right?? (More dark chocolate...more pinot...)
  8. I'm sorry about your rejection to UMass. I'm expecting one as well since I wasn't accepted with that first wave. I just checked the site, and it's still says "applied" though. Did you get an email about your rejection or did you check the website?
  9. Listen, guys, I live in upstate NY, and I will be DELIGHTED to move to warmer climes.
  10. Congrats, fancypants! Even being waitlisted by Harvard is an honor. Way to go!
