  1. Can I just send some major thanks to all of you who commented on here? I've been feeling very imposter-y for the past 6 months (I'm on a Fulbright scholarship right now. Nothing like being surrounded by some of those people to make you feel truly insufficient. Wow.) Some of your comments have literally made me cry tears of relief. I'm feeling very validated right now. Best wishes to anyone else going through those emotions. I can only imagine they'll continue to come and go throughout the life of academia.

I'm trying to lose weight, so I'm watching what I eat.  But when I do stress-eat, it's typically pasta with homemade sauce with a healthy side of wine.

I'm more on the wine with a healthy side of pasta end of things these days... But I feel you on that.

Good luck to you as well, then! What UK institution did you apply to? I agree, and think waiting until the end of this week is reasonable. I've spoken to a few people and the consensus is that interviews are staggered so there seems to be a reason to still wait.

Hellooo! Current UK Fulbrighter here. Some of us got our interview invites WAY later than the others last year (me). Also, they sent out a few of the final notifications (definitely Cambridge and possibly a few others) much later than the others. Try not to worry too much! Although I do think they interview for all positions.

To the person worried about the typos--- don't worry. I found a few weird typos in mine later on, too. If you don't get it once you've gotten past the recommendation round, it will purely be because another candidate stood out a little more. At this point it's all how you weigh against the other 2 or 3 people left competing for the same spot. They really do emphasize the cultural exchange part. However, one of my main elements of cultural exchange I focused on was the British supervisor I really wanted to work with. So specificity of topic could definitely be considered relevant.

To the person who they asked about other Fulbrights: Unless you really wouldn't accept the other one... Say YES! This happened to one of my friends who is currently a Fulbrighter during his interview... And he said he would be interested but would have to look into the other program. And he got the fulbright to the alternative they recommended-- and I'm pretty sure he loved it (Hey, person who got this one-- if you're still checking GradCafe, maybe you can help this person out!)

Advice to potential UK Fulbrighters-- Start saving money NOW if you can...Especially if you are applying for London grants. I know some people in London know have missed some opportunities to travel for financial reasons. It is a very expensive city.  Everyone else, your grant may be sufficient, but sometimes there are banking delays, so I really recommend having some backup funds, as well.

One more thing: If you are interviewing, do not be put off if they don't respond to anything you say!!! I've spoken to nearly all the current UK Fulbrighters (Seriously... Once you meet other candidates, you'll really understand why it's been so competitive... And to imagine that there's an alternate who was a close second for each award, too... There are some really amazing people out there. It's been humbling to meet them), and everyone has mentioned that the interviewers said literally NOTHING in response to their answers in the interview. They're all really, really lovely in person, though!

I know this sounds impossible... But if you can help it, don't obsess over dates where things happened in the past. They pass on info as soon as they know. They are waiting from feedback from several different sources, often including the schools, which need to confirm that they are capable of hosting your proposed project if you are selected. Try to put your mind at ease, work out a backup plan, but also have some fun planning what you would do if you were there.

    Feel free to message me!!!!

    Congrats to everyone!

The past few days have been rather eventful.  Much to my surprise, I've received interview invites from Northwestern, Urbana Champaign, WUSTL, and UCLA.  I applied to cognitive/cognitive neuroscience programs.  I have a lot of background reading and research to do over the next month!

Hi! Congrats on all the interview invites! Was your program at UIUC CogPsy or CN? If it is CogPsy, would you mind sharing (here or PM) your poi and how you received the invite? (Department or poi, email or call, etc)

    thanks!!

Oh god. That makes me feel awful. I got an interview but didn't get the award, which I guess means I bombed it? But I also know multiple people got interviews for one university, so maybe the process is different based on grant? Idk. I think the most awkward part about the interview was primarily not being able to see anyone. I'll be applying next year (or the year after). I'm doing my PhD right now and would like to use the grant for an MA in Research for my dissertation.

No, no! Don't take it that way.  What "che" means is that they've basically already picked their candidate before the interview, but they interview more than just that one person "just in case." So basically, if the other person WOULD have bombed their interview, you would've gotten it. Which means you were REALLY close. :)

  6. Hi everyone! Just wanted to check in and say thank you to everyone for being an awesome community. Good luck to those of you still waiting, those choosing other future plans, and those preparing to leave for their Fulbright year in a few months! <3

  7. By the way, it appears as though someone has changed all of the status's to Accepted on the spreadsheet.  This is a pretty awful thing to do,  thanks alot.

Does anyone know if it can be reverted to a previous version?  I hope we didn't just lose all of that information.

If that was intentional, that was very unkind.  I got a pit in my stomach just looking at that.  This is has been such a great resource over the years...Let's hope it was an accident or a fluke and that nobody would feel the need to destroy something we've all been working on for months.  Fortunately, there are a lot of very smart people on here, and I bet somebody knows how to fix it... or at least I hope so! Meanwhile, this completely IT-Clueless person will sit back with her fingers crossed.

Anyway, originally I wanted to comment to congratulate the next batch of people who received their notifications! Best of luck to everyone still waiting, and I'm sorry that you don't have the spreadsheet available as a resource right now. :C

It's fixed it's fixed!!!!!! I just noticed.. Thank you, whoever took care of that :D maybe we should all download the current version just in case it happens again

  8. Nonono :( but I want you all there, too!

But seriously, you guys got so far. I hope you find something that ends up being an even better fit and a more exciting and powerful experience for you than you could have ever imagined!

  9. At this point there's no telling. The excitement of the possibility of a notification decreases everyday. The UK is playing with my emotions  :(

On a positive note, I just completed my oral defense for my thesis! It sort of helped take my mind off the Fulbright, but now I have to find something else to do. Focusing on my other classes would be the logical answer but I'm not really looking for logical.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!  :)

Congrats on getting through your thesis defense!!!! That's a HUGE accomplishment, especially with Fulbright on the mind! The UK will definitely notify this week or next week-- I can't imagine Fulbright would tell us one thing and do another, and they told us we would know by the end of March.  Fingers crossed!

    Happy Friday everyone!

Oh! Just saw Raisedbywolves's post-- Congrats on making it that far, and best wishes that something amazing is coming for you! With or without Fulbright!

  10. Oh gosh. Here we go again. I almost never get email in my primary inbox because of all the filters I have set up.... And i just got a (1) in my inbox, and all I could see was that it was from "Noreply@..."

I seriously started shaking all over.

    It was an order confirmation.

For a payment I made less than 5 minutes ago.

HOW DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF?!
