CMU is a long shot, any way you look at it. Not to worry. We're all going to grad school and it's going to be awesome.
-
You & Milkyways echo my own thoughts exactly. That CMU…keeping us guessing. This entire process is like a reeeeally expensive dating game.
-
Milkyways, you are rocking it, congrats! I have still yet to hear a peep from Carnegie Mellon. Maybe a good sign, who knows?! Did anyone from there look at your LinkedIn profile by chance?

Good luck with MICA and SAIC interviews!
-
No from Hunter this morning too. Keep marchin'!

Re: getting art theory/ criticism during undergrad... OK so I'm not alone. We barely brushed over the stuff in my undergrad program, only briefly during an Aesthetics of Art class. But graduate school is where most get the bulk of their crit studies, so I think we're ok. I'm finding there are some great resources out there on the web by just googling art theory and criticism, though. May help beef up an interview.
-
This is random, but did any of you read and study art theory while in undergrad?
-
Just checked my LinkedIn at random, and saw that someone from Carnegie Mellon had viewed my profile a couple days ago, indicative of two things: CMU has started reviewing MFA apps AND…looks like there's another way to dot your i's and cross your t's when applying to grad schools. You just never know!
-
I'd be cool with that.
-
Scaredapplicant, I like your optimism.

CONGRATS Columbia invitees!
-
Just checked and they added the MFA onto my New Genres also…I just about upchucked my heart…Whew. Good luck!

MICA said they will be notifying toward the middle of March, last week of March at the latest. Not sure if this is referring to Mt. Royal specifically or to all programs. They said they try to call or email in advance.
-
I'm with you guys. It gets harder to come on here with each passing day, yet the checking gets more obsessive.

@ Cookie, touché.

My pleasure, @Leahdog and @Milkyways! Milkyways, yeah... that April 15 deadline seems a little more fluid than the article affirms. I feel there have been some posts about schools asking for earlier decisions. I'm with you on having to make the call on being more rural or having less immediate access to LA/NYC etc., for at least a couple years. But we can remember that so many of the professors and artists from the bigger cities will be visiting artists at the outlying schools (a.k.a. work those connections!). And from what I hear, being away from the condensed city could also afford larger studio space.

Check out this article of advice…. "The Grad School Letter Arrives ... Now What?"

Hi, Last week I was poking around outside my usual forum and saw somewhere someone was strongly encouraging people to apply for a particular scholarship. I believe their advice read something like, 'please do not apply to grad schools without applying to X scholarship…there is a lot of funding for grads…etc.' Has anyone seen that thread, and if so, can you tell me the name of this scholarship? Thanks!!

So I called Columbia yesterday out of curiosity about when they plan to hold their New Media interviews, because I've been trying to make a snap decision whether to fly to NY for the Bard interview, or Skype. The Columbia person I spoke with said they will be reviewing New Media/Sculpture applications next week!! and interviews will be held the first week of March. This might be helpful to any of us applicants of Columbia/ multiple NY schools--- in the magical event that one might land a Columbia interview, it sounds like it may coincide with other NY school interviews. This is just a postulation.

Sorry to hear that, herdsman.
