  1. thanks, everybody. i can't resist asking -- any other general or specific advice for us starting this fall?
  2. thanks, emmmyd. it sounds like we've been (effectively) waitlisted then ... huh. wonder what happens after the 15th, when things re-shuffle? you'd have to think some people jump if their status changes from WL to accepted ... best of luck to you, too!
  3. I'm waiting to hear from Ohio State too. As of 30 minutes ago or so, no one has posted about hearing from OSU on the SLP acceptance thread so decisions or most of them seem like they haven't been sent out yet... I guess? Fingers crossed!
  4. Anyone out there who can talk about their experiences at UC -- University of Cincinnati? Love to hear firsthand reports on pros/cons on studying at UC and other OH programs in terms of clinical experiences externships faculty the student experience anything else Thanks!!!
  5. I can't give advice but I have been wondering the same thing. I have a cross-country move ahead as well and want to downsize as much as possible ahead of time. I'm inclined to keep the basic texts because I know them so well, have highlighted portions, etc. and can use them for reference Hope someone who's been there weighs in here, too. Best of luck btw with your move and school!
  6. i've had interviews with 2 schools in lieu of traveling across the country for their open houses. one asked more motivational and aspirational questions, including how would i like to be known 5 or 10 years down the road, and for what, and the other was a little more cut and dried, with questions about my background and fit for slp. neither asked any slp technical questions. we did briefly go over classes i've had and not had in one case. hope that helps.
  7. yes, the waiting game is nerve-wracking! mostly it makes me very unfocussed... congrats, everyone!! our hard work is being rewarded! I've been accepted at 3 programs, waiting to hear from my top choice. I'd be happy with what I've already got except no GA or scholarships . i alternate between being super excited but stressed--i have a big move ahead of me for one thing: all of the schools have such unique benefits that making a choice seems like it will be a challenge too. anyone know how to find alumni or more info about schools from a student perspective? mostly i'm excited and glad to have a choice.
  8. Does anyone know good places or ways to research what the student experience is like at any of the programs? Are there any alumni reading these SLP forum? I'd like to hear how graduates of a few different programs feel about their experiences now that they're over, e.g., would they make the same choice again? Especially interested in Ohio schools OU, UT, UC, Miami, OSU, UA Thanks!!
  9. Thanks, good points. Looks like all of us plan to begin programs this fall. A related question could be, do you think it helps to be focussed on a specialty area in school or not, and how specific? e.g., adult onset neurogenic disorders (an interest of mine), infant language development vs just language dev. Although I know I'm interested in the medical side of CD, I also LOVED my linguistics classes, and have a little dream of doing sociolinguistics research! 2 years might not be enough time? Then again, it might be. lol Thanks, everyone!
  10. Ohio has a lot of good programs, it seems. What do people know about OU's program? What do they focus on? Also, what is Athens like? I've lived out of state and in a big city for many years ... OU sounds great but maybe Athens, a small college town, would be too big a shock? (I'm hoping someone tells me it's wonderful and not just 18-21 y. o.
  11. In some professions where you go to school, the people you meet ,and networks you form are key to your future. Does anyone have information about the importance of an SLP MA program's ranking and reputation for your career? That is, once you've received your degree, and are out on the job market. How much do future employers care? Anecdotal or other references and leads welcome, as well as any ideas on what you've heard about what employers DO care about.
  12. Thank you! That's so interesting, that Case doesn't even certify for schools. I've been accepted at OU so far and am really happy about it. They seem to have a good medical focus. They also have a very cool global health initiative, with summer clinical programs in Africa and Asia, that seems unique so far. Or are there others maybe? any thoughts or leads on CD and global health programs? (maybe I'll start a separate thread). What are people's impressions of how important the individual school choice and its reputation and/or ranking is, ultimately, when you're out in the job market? Is it important within the region only, like Ohio, or nationally, if you look for work in another region? I haven't seen any forums like this but maybe there are some, not sure.
  13. I'm interested in TBI and neurogenic disorders, too, but am restricting my applications to Ohio schools. What about OSU, Kevin? I'd think they'd have a direct link to the great medical system right there. Does anyone have ideas on which schools in Ohio are more / most focused on medical SLP?
