  1. Hi all, I just got admitted to my second choice for a Masters in Social Work (Fordham). Unfortunately, as much as I would be thrilled to attend, they gave me my acceptance after 4 weeks & I have not heard back from any other universities (with the exception of Yeshiva requesting an interview next week). Fordham says that they will give me two weeks to make a decision, and should be sending my financial aid in a week. As I understand, there are some programs that require an April deadline to make a decision, but I'm not sure if social work is one of them. Can I ask for an extension to making a decision? What's the best thing to say? Alternatively, could I request the other schools to make a decision earlier, or is this a serious no-no? Thanks!
  2. Just got my acceptance to Fordham! I'm so happy, I'm stunned
  3. Any opinions on taking part-time classes while working full-time to pay off debt? I've applied for full-time, but have considered living with relatives/being in school part-time to pay off debt. I've heard from others that this isn't suggested because you won't be close to your cohort/same amount of debt in the end/get it over with. Any thoughts?
  4. I'm sure it depends on the job. My 40 hour job doesn't compare to my friends who I know who work 70-80 hours a week, or those who work full-time and have kids. I have a few other things scheduled besides work (volunteering, etc.) but I just made sure that I made a little time each day or each week leading up to submitting the applications to make it work. It's not something I can do in a day, or even a week or two.
  5. Haven't heard anything yet but it seems like they're still accepting applications?
  6. Opt, that's awesome! I was supposed to attend their on campus info session, but was tied up last minute and couldn't make the trip up in time. Anything else that was interesting in particular?
  7. Hey Opt, I think I got the confirmation email the day after. I just noticed that as well. My resume/SOP aren't showing up on the proof but they did say that they've received everything. So not just you.
  8. I don't think you can apply next semester at Columbia (I don't think they have spring admission) but definitely can for the next year.
  9. I finished applying mid to late December (last one 12/21) and just got a request to interview at Yeshiva! Any one else applying there?
  10. I applied 12/21 and am still waiting.
  11. Attached my SoP as a google doc below! Let me know if there are any problems, I have a few other essays I need to write for apps. https://docs.google.com/a/sas.upenn.edu/document/d/16R_lj3gJLAF0rLj_cSet1a_O7UIZCbJI7JUKLMKUqr8/edit?usp=sharing
  12. I would like to exchange! In desperate need of help on mine.
  13. I did an oral presentation at a conference and published an abstract of my research based on that. I've had two oral presentations and a poster but that was the only publication I've had so far. But thanks, I had thought that I would need to get a publication at some point. My work would have me working on dissertations, manuscripts, and grants, but none of it would be my own. So definitely would have to figure that out.
  14. Hi guys! This is my first time posting in this forum, so I still have a lot of information I still need to process and things I need to learn. I was wondering if you guys could give me advice for going to grad school in psychology (most likely, clinical psychology). I went to a top 10 (sometimes top 5) ranked school in the US and majored in English. I finished in 3 years due to financial reasons, and majored in English because I initially wanted to pursue a PhD in English. Now, however, I've decided that I would like to apply for clinical psychology programs. I had wanted to double major in English and psychology as an undergrad, but financial constraints made it impossible for me to finish both majors (I think I was also one short for the minor). Basically, my question is what I should to do assist my application process and to increase likelihood of getting into any program. Short backstory of me is that I got a 3.4 GPA in undergrad with a degree in English. I've been working full-time in the last year for a very prominent PI in medical/microbiology research at the same university that I graduated from in addition to taking psych classes postbac. I haven't published a paper on my own yet, nor was I able to pursue a thesis in school, but I have a published abstract and an acknowledgement in PNAS. I've taken the GRE, but plan to retake that and take the psych subject test if needed. What else would you recommend that I do to help me with the application process? Suggestions? To be very honest, I know I will have a lot of catching up to do for applications, but any suggestions, advice, or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!
