  1. Does anyone have experience renting from Pike International? Their listings seem to dominate Craigslist and their places look nice and reasonably priced. A quick search on Yelp, however, will reveal that they have a horrible internet reputation. Does anyone have direct experience with them or know someone who does? Will they rip me off?
  2. Congratulations, Mal! That is really great news!
  3. I just got my waitlist notification today. I guess DC might still be in the running...
  4. I still haven't heard so I emailed their admissions dept. They say that they haven't yet come to a final decision on my application, and that they expect to find a decision by this Friday. They also confirmed that they send all decisions by snail mail, with additional e-mails for acceptances.
  5. Thanks for the info, Cornell. The teaching fellows thing seems like a really good aspect of Yale that doesn't get a whole lot of attention. I mean, money like that makes a difference. I'm getting very excited about the Visit Day--I hope to see you there, too! JAubrey, here is a little bit about myself I wrote in another thread: I graduated from a small liberal arts college in 2007 with majors in Music and Art History (studied abroad one semester in Vienna). I lived in Germany for 1 year afterward studying music and then working as an au pair. Then I worked two years in the book publishing industry back in the states. I picked up a Turkic language along the way and got part-time translation work for an archaeological dig. GPA: 3.79, GRE: 640V, 700Q, 5.5W
  6. Bump. Nobody is looking at Fletcher and Yale? Really?
  7. I haven't heard anything either. It's really annoying. I tried calling today but nobody picked up. Does anyone have a legitimate explanation for why it is good policy for a school to spread out admissions decisions this way? It seems totally unprofessional to me...
  8. I've gotten most of my notifications from IR grad schools and at the moment I think it comes down to Yale or Fletcher for me (assuming that I am either rejected or waitlisted from MSFS). I got some money from Fletcher but considering the difference in cost of living between Boston and New Haven, I actually think the bottom line cost is comparable. This actually brings me to my first question in comparing the two. Working/interning during the semester, where would I be able to more likely earn more money with minimum negative impact to my classwork? What little I've heard from Fletcher on this matter hasn't been too encouraging, and I have the feeling that Yale might have more interesting resume-building options. I'd also like to compare the two on how active the student bodies are in clubs/organizations. Fletcher seems to have an outstanding array of clubs and groups (and a couple of student-run publications, too, I think), while I can't tell so much about Yale. Is Yale perhaps too small to be very active in these ways? I wish Yale had more info on their website, but I guess I'll learn more at the Visit Day. Is anyone else choosing between these two? What are your thoughts?
  9. That seems to be the long and the short of it.
  10. So, does anyone know if the first notifications are all admits and then they move on to waitlist/declines later? Or is there still hope for an admit notification later on? I forgot to say before, but congrats and good job too all of you who've been admitted!
  11. Where's mine?!?!? This is driving me up the wall...
  12. I'm also in this boat. I e-mailed them when I got the decision (to ask if I could be moved to the Fall 11 term) and they responded today, saying that there was no appeal process, so I'm basically stuck. Does this mean that people on the waitlist now could potentially start this Fall while I wait till Spring? Starting in the Spring really does not sound attractive to me...
  13. I, too, was tricksed--most deceptive!
  14. Thanks for this post. I found it really helpful to read. I'm curious, though, about what you mean by "military-ish" when describing the Foreign Service. Is it just that they're organized in a similar fashion to the military or that their work tends to center on military concerns or something else...? I guess I ask because I kind of know what you mean, but I'm not sure where I got the idea!
