  1. I think we have made this more of a congrats and what now thread. Congrats to you! I am trying to figure out funding now. Applying for scholarships in hopes of avoiding student loans.
  2. So as I wait to hear back from scholarship applications, how long do I have before I have to accept or decline the Federal Un-Subsidized Student Loans? The award package was emailed to me yesterday but it didn't tell me any dates. I don't want to accept until I hear back from my scholarship programs I just applied to; which may not be until after April 15th. Any ideas?
  3. Since its funded I'd stay the course. That's just me. My husband is just worried about finances if he has to retire early from the Army because of the drawdown. Which is also why it's imperative I get this degree so I can make a decent salary when I'm done. Everything happens for a reason and it will work out somehow.
  4. We will figure out how to battle our witty husbands together on the financial stuff. They should just be happy that after grad school we can bring in more money. Unless of course, we pursue more schooling! Lol
  5. Admitted to KU for MSIT with a Focus in Information Security and Assurance. No word on any funding, but I am applying for scholarships.
  6. Hi all. I just got accepted to KU for the MSIT program with a focus on Infomation Security and Assurance. I'm going to be applying for the CyberCorps initiative through OPM through my school and was curious if anyone else is using this route for funding and how the process is working or not for them.
  7. Well everyone was elated for me except my husband, who, being the pessimist he is, said "cool, how are you going to pay for it". Duh, I'm working on scholarships. "When will you know that?" Well considering they are just now becoming available to apply for, probably sometime in May. Geez, way to pop my balloon.
  8. Well now you'll have a reliable car to get to class. Think positive.
  9. I figured my name is so common it really didn't matter if I posted it. LOL I am so HAPPY
  10. Thanks! I know it's kind of bold but I was so excited. It was the only program I applied to. I screamed when I saw the decision. I am elated!! For those still waiting, don't give up hope!!!
  11. Thanks! I was so excited I screamed. LOL Wishing you a great day too!!!!
  12. When did you apply? Have you gotten anything at all even saying your application is complete? Have you tried contacting the school?
  13. One of my letter writers would only write one, which is why I wasn't able to apply to my backup. But he is an industry professional and put his reputation out there for me. So if I don't get in I'll have to find at least one new recommender for next season, which sucks, since he has the most clout. Fingers crossed. I won't start really panicking until April since my app was in right before the deadline ( which they knew it would be, was waiting on rec letters and had been in contact with the department for about a month prior). I knew from my meeting that I'd be hearing sometime after spring break, so now the real fretting begins. Lol
  14. @scalebound @Punk28 The torture is terrible. I've tried to look at previous accept/reject dates but they are all over the place. For me the sad fact is that my app went in the very last minute. They were waiting for it and I was told I would hear something after spring break, but that could be April. Lol I'm driving myself crazy over here. As far as interviews, I have already had an informal interview with a POI and the Committee chair, because the the POI thought I should be applying for COE instead of IT. But my BA is in Mass Comm so I knew better. So far today only one result from KU and it was a rejection. I am trying to remain hopeful. I take it back: there's three rejections today so far. So if today is rejection day I hope I don't hear anything!
  15. It's just pure torture at this point. I hope I know somethin this week, if not, my hope will start to fade.
  16. I'm so happy for you!!! I wish something magical would happen on the KU portal. Lol still waiting.
  17. I keep getting emails like I have been accepted but haven't gotten official word from KU. I'm patiently waiting until I have an official letter. I don't want to be crushed if I don't get in.
  18. 2/29 Submitted application (had to wait on a recommendation letter, dept knew I was applying and was waiting) 3/1 Time stamped and forwarded to Department 3/2 Met with POI and Department Admissions Comittee Chair 3/3 Application received and under review by Department 3/7 Graduate studies email with app checklist; complete 3/8 Financial Aid FAFSA received; awards in late March 3/9 Financial Aid SAR good standing no further info req 3/12 Associate Department Chair/Program Director & Advisor looks at my LinkedIn 3/16 "^^^^^^^^^^" ; Blanket Email from program campus thanking me for my interest and encouraging me to choose them. Says I will hear from program advisor soon. Today: Spring break is over and I'm freaking out about what will happen next. I am actually scared. Signs point to yes, but until I have that official letter I keep developing backup plans etc. I want to beat my head on a wall right now. Update: March 13-19 8 viewers looked at my LinkedIn in private mode. And one today March 20th. I think I might start hyperventilating.
  19. Do some research. There may be some programs from the state or the local county in which the school is in that can help as well. Like you I'm an older student as well. I personally think if you can find funding or work while attending that I would do it. I know my opinion on this matter is not the popular one, but I also know the desperation and wish to do something better in my life. Even with my 22 years of IT experience, I cannot get an entry level GS job because my undergrad isn't in CS or CE. I tried exploring other interests but that didn't work out either. I'm waiting to hear back from the only program I applied to. If I get in, I will go, with or without funding. We are doing alright financially at the moment but we won't know for another year if my husband will have to retire early from the Army or not due to the downsizing. We have an 8 yr old son and we need to know that if something happens with my husband's job that I can work in a somewhat decent paying field while he looks for a job. The only way I can do that is by getting certifications (which I am studying for) and going back to school. Good luck, I wish you the best. I know the struggle and I will pray for you.
  20. I guess I see things differently. Having filed bankruptcy 13 years ago and being in a somewhat similar position at the time I took out student loans to finish my undergrad. I don't know your situation or your location but I do know a good friend who has a Bachelor in Psychology and can't get a decent paying job around here to make ends meet. In fact, she had to file bankruptcy. She is running a daycare out of her home just to survive and her husband is active duty military as well. They have three kids. She has considered going back to school so she can get a better job and dig themselves out of the mess they are in. Her mom can co-sign student loans, so she is seriously considering it. I do agree however that you should contact the school about your current funding and see if there are any other opportunities for more funding or if you can attend part time while working. I do not think that after all the effort put into applying to grad school you should just walk away because you don't have a full ride. I understand your predicament. There has to be a way to make it work and not end up homeless. Good luck.
  21. I just had a moment. It occurred to me that when I finally get the email to check the portal, I'm going to be too damn scared to look. Especially if it comes on the 24th which would be the same day I was rejected from a different program last year. I have decided though, if I don't get in that maybe I'll just get a second bachelor degree first and go from there.
  22. Do you have anyone who will cosign for you? I would look at every scholarship you qualify for and start applying for them. If you really want to go to this school, you will find a way. Don't give up.
  23. I'm hoping to hear something this week. I need good vibes so I can root for KU in the sweet 16 as an official Jayhawk. Yes, I'm pathetic. Lol P.S. I'm being constantly mocked by KU ads on here. Lol Guess I need to clear my browser history ?
