Thanks, Gamb1t. I applied to Maryland and was wondering why I hadn't heard back yet... to my knowledge they don't always interview people. I know at least one who got in and never had an interview with them. But, knowing they're making decisions and announcements within the next week is very helpful. Thank you for posting (also, Gambit was my favorite of the X-Men)

Well- I received my rejection notice from UMD yesterday. MintBrad- did you hear anything?

Just checking in- has anyone heard anything new? Still no word from UMD.

MintBrad- I hope we get to study together next year at Maryland! I know of a few fully funded MAs in theatre, they're not stellar programs, but they're decent. Also, did you talk to any schools about doing a dual MA and PhD program? If it doesn't work out this year, it might be worth talking to a program head about entering a program (like Maryland) as an MA and seeing if you could just move from that onto the PhD program whenever they feel you are ready. That might cut down on the length of time it would take to get that second MA and also increase the likelihood of getting into your top PhD programs. Fingers crossed for all of us!! Please, let us study there!

So- is it pretty safe to assume that if you have NOT heard back from a school by this point, it's unlikely that you got in? I'm a little unfamiliar with this process and am not sure. I was hoping some others on this thread might know.

Well- hopefully they're just doing PhDs a day later than MAs and I'll hear from UMD today! Good luck to everyone else! I hope all of us hear back soon!! Also, I bet you're a great bunch of people to ask this question of... but, suppose I do not get in. I don't really know what other schools to consider. I would like to do a PhD in Theatre with an emphasis on performance studies (not necessarily performance, but more a focus on audience interaction and the communication between audience and performer). However, I've been out of academia for so long that I really have no idea what schools to look at or even which professors have an interest in that area and also no idea where to start finding that information. If anyone has some quick suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi MintBrad- I still haven't heard anything from UMD yet either. I'm trying to prevent myself from thinking that the length of time is correlative to a positive decision. Basically, just because they haven't gotten back to me yet doesn't mean I did NOT get in. On the other hand... it does seem kind of late. I've seen that a few people have emailed POIs to inquire and heard back. I'm almost to the point that I'm considering doing that. But, I'll give it a little while.

Hi Mocha - I applied for their PhD in TAPS. I check the application system about three or four times a day... it's probably a really bad habit to have.

Thanks MintBrad! I've been there before, I used to live in D.C. I'm really familiar with their program head and their facilities. That's kind of why it was the only place I applied. The other one on my list was Brown, I just didn't think I stood much of a chance getting in there. In retrospect, perhaps I should I have applied. It's interesting that they said mid March. The past years' results posted on GradCafe all indicate it was late February. However, I know they have a brand new application system this year. So, that might have something to do with it.

I honestly just found this discussion thread... I can't believe I didn't find it before!! I applied for U. Maryland's PhD in TAPS, fall 2015. I haven't heard a word yet. Has anyone else? I was looking at the past years' results on here and noticed that most people found out by mid to late February. I'm getting a little concerned at not having heard anything yet.
