  1. For me it's simple, I have some merit-based grant money, some need-based grant money, and then federal loans. Does that mean that federal loans go first? Thanks!
  2. Friends, When you receive the financial aid letter from HGSE, it can come with a whole bunch of components. 1. HGSE Grant (need-based) 2. Other Grants (merit or restricted) 3. Work Study 4. Subsidized loans 5. Unsubsidized loans 6. Maybe there's more -- who knows? Repeatedly, on the application, on the letter, and on the website, it says that outside funding needs to be reported because it will reduce the financial aid that you are provided. My question is "how does that work?" In specific, say I get 10K from an outside scholarship or 10K from my employer or 10K from my mother and I report it -- what happens? Do they reduce my need-based scholarship by that amount? If so, what's the point? Do they simply reduce the loan for which I am eligible? In which case, that's great. In what order to they eliminate these things? Is it worth it to look for additional monies? Any insight will be helpful. Thanks!
  3. Letter just arrived. Best of luck to all.
  4. Did any US citizen students get their finaid letters yet?
  5. Re: the Reynolds scholarship I read through all of those scholarships, which are so random, i.e. residency, last name, etc. I've wondered: are they significant scholarships? Are we talking hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands? Are you comfortable sharing? Thanks.
  6. Does anyone know how many merit scholarships (leadership in education, urban scholar, pforzeimer, etc.) are awarded?
  7. Durrell, Where did you hear that HGSE is switching to a PhD?
  8. I have read recently about a number of Ed.D. programs at Northeastern University in Boston. Does anyone know anything about the reputation of the school or the university in general? Does anyone have experience with their combination of online and residency courses? How flexible is it and how hard is it to complete? How hard is it to get in? Any information would be appreciated.
  9. The merit-based scholarships at Harvard are generally limited to a closed category of people such as Boston public school teachers or Harvard College alumni. One exception (maybe the only one) is the Leadership in Education Award. Does anyone know how many such awards are given out? (or what percentage of applicants win this award?)
  10. It is nearly impossible to decide whether to accept the offer of admission (in comparison with other schools) without knowing the finances. I wonder if that info actually comes earlier, just like the admissions decision.
  11. When does Harvard provide information about financial aid? Thanks, JT
  12. If one is accepted to HGSE for an EdM, when does one need to inform HGSE if he or she is accepting the spot? Thanks, JT
  13. My page finally read "complete" today. It lists the completion date as January 6th. I am assuming that this does not mean that my application is "late". Is that fair to say?
  14. It seems that you can take all of the PSP courses as part of the HDP degree. You can even take the individual counseling and the group counseling courses. You can basically get the PSP degree, just without the 16-hour practicum and practicum cohort meetings. Is there something that I am missin?
  15. I completed a master's in secondary education almost ten years ago, and am a full-time teacher. I am now interested in advancing my education in counseling and education. Does anyone know the real differences between the Harvard PSP (formerly Risk and Prevention) counseling degree and the Harvard Human Development and Psychology degree? The requirements of the HDP degree seem much simpler, as they do not include the practicum requirement? Any help with this will be very appreciated.
