  1. I was accepted for an MA in International Education at both TC Columbia and NYU Steinhardt and need some advice in choosing a school. Here are some pros about each: 1. NYU is in a great location with an easier commute. I found it to be friendlier and more progressive. It's one of the best schools for global study which I find as a plus as that is my major. However, it is more expensive. 2. Although I heard mixed reviews about TC, it is less expensive and Ivy League. Although it is not as difficult to get into as Columbia, the Ivy League on a resume may be really useful in terms of career opportunities and may give me a leg up. However, they don't offer practically any study abroad opportunities which is crazy to me considering the nature of the program. When I visited both schools, I was more drawn to NYU. However, I wasn't able to visit my specific program at TC Columbia and I wonder if I would think differently about it if I had during my campus visit. Help?! Thanks!
  2. Previous Schools Private Liberal Arts College Previous Degrees and GPAs: BA in Spanish and Secondary Education / 3.5 GRE Scores (Verbal/Quantitative/Analytical Writing): Didn't take the GRE (after studying for months, I decided not to) Previous Work Experience (Years, Type): 3 years - high school spanish teacher Math/Econ Background: N/A Foreign Language Background Spanish, Portuguese Intended Field of Study in Grad School: International Educational Development Long Term Professional Goals: Working for the UN focusing on the development of education Schools Applied to & Results: TC Columbia - Accepted NYU Steinhardt - Accepted Ultimate Decision & Why: I paid the tuition deposit for TC, although it wasn't an easy decision by any means. Ultimately, TC offered a 9k scholarship and they are a reputable school. I am still on the fence though and will be going to both schools to try to make my decision easier. NYU is closer to where I live and I will be commuting (its downtown NYC vs. Harlem). They are great schools and I am a terrible decision maker. Advice for Future Applicants: -Start early. Early decision is important so contact your professors as soon as you can - I did this in October. -Your statement of purpose is e v e r y t h i n g. Seriously. Work your butt off on that 2-3 page paper. It got me into two great schools with a less than amazing GPA from a less than amazing small university without taking the GREs. Write it. Edit it. Write it again. Have a friend edit it. Keep it concise, engaging and write about how that program is perfect for you.
  3. Got accepted into the IED program at TC and IE at NYU Steinhardt. Cost aside, anyone have any advice about these programs? Looking for people who have experienced this program at either school. They're both very similar from what I see and I want to make the right choice. Why did you choose that school? How was your program and what are you doing now? Or, if anyone is a current student or prospective student for one of these programs, why did you choose it? Thanks!
  4. That is immensely helpful. Thank you! I agree, I think the "diploma mill" probably varies by department. In terms of finances, I am applying for financial aid and they gave me a $9,000 scholarship. My parents have my college fund (got a full scholarship for my undergrad) so hopefully I wouldn't be paying too much or taking out loans. Still waiting to hear back from NYU Steinhardt for their IE program. Great to hear about internship opportunities as well.
  5. Does anyone have any experience with the IED program sat TC? I'm a high school teacher right now and got accepted into that program. However, I see myself in the future as working in an NGO or somewhere in the United Nations. I've heard about the diploma mill and it's a little discouraging to read so much negative feedback about the school. I'm wondering if anyone has information about the IED program specifically. Thank you!
  6. Thank you so much for the help! My concentration is peace and human rights education. Hoping to work as part of an NGO or even the United Nations in the future. Still factoring in financial aid and I received a $9,000 scholarship from Columbia. I don't have any student loans from my undergrad and have money saved up (received an almost full scholarship for the four years) so I feel pretty lucky in that sense. Still waiting on NYU though but I'm happy to read a positive take on Columbia's program.
  7. I'm in the same boat regarding Teachers College vs. NYU Steinhardt for an MA in International Educational Development (TC) and International Education (Steinhardt). They seem to be very similar programs and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with either school. I was originally more drawn to NYU but it's hard to turn down a diploma from an Ivy League school.
  8. Accepted to the International Educational Development Program at TC! Very excited!
  9. Does anyone have any insight on the International Educational Development program at TC vs. International Education at NYU Steinhardt? Anyone who is in either of these programs and can offer their experience and why they chose it would be great. I'm trying to decide which would be the better program for me and trying to focus on classes as well as career opportunities over tuition (although I can't exactly ignore that aspect). Thanks!
  10. Hi! I just got accepted into the IED program at Teachers College as well! I Didn't apply to UPenn but I did apply to NYU. I'm still waiting to hear on them but I'd also like some advice too on job placement and recognition from TC.
