  1. did anyone else apply to TC Columbia's Masters? I know I asked this already but it's been a seriously comical amount of time since the interview and I haven't heard back!
  2. Are job prospects as poor for a PhD? I probably shouldn't attend a partially funded program if so.
  3. Congrats everyone! I am attending Fordham University's PhD program.
  4. I'm passionate about the field that my graduate work will allow me to work in, and it seems like there is no point putting it off. I love school, and i'm lucky that for right now, my parents still live near a major city (NYC) that will allow me to commute to a program and save money if necessary. I didn't really see any career options for me that didn't involve more school, as a Psych BA, so I just jumped in!
  5. I am 21 and starting my PhD this fall straight out of undergrad. I am honestly terrified that I'll be way younger than everyone else in my cohort and that i'll be struggling socially (or academically, for that matter).
  6. My best friend just got a job in Florida for next year (we are graduating undergrad), and i'll be stuck in snowy and cold New York! my vent is that I should have applied to more schools in warm places!
  7. Has anyone heard from TC about their school psych program? I've already accepted an offer at another school, but would still like an answer. It's been forever since the interview.
  8. I'm attending a School Psych program in NY next year, but I'm from there so I am a little biased! I think that NY is a really fun and exciting city, but the only way I'm able to attend is that I'll be starting off, at least, by commuting from home. I would say that if you're open to a roommate, you may be able to find someone from school and then find a place, in an outer borough or New Jersey, for around $800 a month; but keep in mind that a monthly metrocard will add a lot of additional expense. If I were you, just looking at the debt that my (partially funded) program will leave me in, I would choose the more affordable option! I also succumbed to the lure of NY, though, so i get it.
  9. Has anyone heard from Columbia Teacher's College's EdS program? I'm 95% set on a different program and am anxious to pay my deposit, but I hate having this one hanging in the air!
  10. It's easy to say in retrospect that I would have applied only to the program that I've decided to attend....but since we can't actually do that, I would probably have more confidence in myself and apply to more PhDs and PsyDs. I focused mostly on Masters programs even though I knew I wanted my PhD in the end..and I was accepted into the only doctoral program I applied to!
  11. Decaf, I know someone who applied to the PsyD and was given an acceptance to the specialist level program instead.
