  1. Hello all, I just wanted to stop by and say good luck to everyone who is going through the process, and congrats to the people who have become semi-finalists. I am a former US-UK Fulbright scholar (study/research award), and I have been helping others with the process and told them about this forum as a resource. Back when I applied for the 2015- 2016 cohort, there were hundreds of people on it, and it became a great resource and support system. I know the process is taxing, but it was definitely worth it in the end. And for the people who did not make it to the next round, I definitely don't want to invalidate or minimize how it may feel, but I also want to let you know there were many Fulbright scholars who applied multiple times and got it on their 2nd, 3rd, and one person I know 6th try. So, if it is something you want to do then maybe you can try again (i.e., if you're up for it). Take care everyone and good luck!
  2. Congrats on being a semi-finalist! It was a general panel for the UK. I know a few of the fulbrighters had people who specialized in their field, but I think most of us had a general panel. Just be prepared for either. Most of the interview questions are general. They typically don't ask specific questions about your research. It's more about getting to know you and your interest in the UK. And my interview was the first week of February, and I didn't get my final response until March 30th, but I think this was later than the usual response time. Also, it would be beneficial to apply to the university prior to final selection. I was sent an email a couple weeks before the final response telling me I needed to apply before they selected their recipient. I had 24 hours to apply to the university, but I think this depends on the university. Some universities have their own requirements for Fulbright applicants, but the university does have a say in who is selected.
  3. Hello everyone, I'm currently a UK Fulbright. I just realized today makes one year since I found out I was a semi-finalist, and it made me think of this forum. This was a great support system throughout the waiting period. I know how stressful it can be to wait for so long, but it will be over before you know it. Good luck to everyone during the semi-finalist, finalist, and interview stage. And congrats to everyone that made it through the first stage.
  4. That sounds great! Go for it! And good luck!
  5. Hello Horb, I'm a current Fulbright UK winner. If you believe doing your MA in the UK is crucial for your research and you can show this in your Statement of Purpose then I say go for it. Just make sure you show the program/school you want to go to is perfect for your research. With that being said, I would not say "I'd like to complete more coursework" that does not sound like a good reason. The UK is very competitive. So the fact that your current program does not have specific courses is not a good reason to come to the UK (I'm sure your reason is more than that I'm just giving an example). As for your adviser, I don't see why he/she wouldn't support you in applying for another MA unless he/she feels you don't have a good enough argument for doing it. But regardless good luck and never give up on your dreams.
  6. I assumed it was the same document also. You should join the "U.S.-UK Fulbrighters 2015-2016" Facebook group.
  7. Hello YaseminAkturk, Welcome to the forum! I'm not a Turkey applicant, but I have a friend that is, and there is already a Turkey Facebook page with many other Turkey Fulbrighters. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/734746963308515/ You should definitely join and Congratulations on being a Fulbrighter. I just tried to use the link and it says page not found, so just go to Facebook and type in Fulbright Turkey 2015-2016 and it should pop up. Hopefully an actual Turkey applicant can chime in and give you better details.
  8. I'm roughly 50 miles from London! I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I definitely plan on visiting London while I'm there.
  9. Yay! My heart is still pounding from the email. It was so unexpected. Congratulations!
  10. I got the Fulbright award. I just received the email. I'm so excited!!! I cannot believe the UK sent out the emails this late, but I'm happy anyways.
  11. At this point there's no telling. The excitement of the possibility of a notification decreases everyday. The UK is playing with my emotions On a positive note, I just completed my oral defense for my thesis! It sort of helped take my mind off the Fulbright, but now I have to find something else to do. Focusing on my other classes would be the logical answer but I'm not really looking for logical. Good luck to everyone still waiting!
  12. Congratulations to everyone accepted! Now come on UK...
  13. I'll definitely look forward to it. Hopefully, we will know in the next couple of days.
  14. That's interesting! I applied for their Criminology program.
  15. I was wondering the same thing. But the university I applied for said Fulbright gave them a deadline for confirming to the committee that they (the university) are happy with the committee's selection. So I assume all universities would have that same deadline or near it. I don't think this would make the process go any longer. The university told me that the deadline was tomorrow (i.e., March 11). So I had to apply to the university the same day I received the email. The following day (i.e., March 11) I got an email accepting me into the program and university. I hope this was clear.
  16. University of Kent.... What about you?
  17. Thank you! The reason why I did not apply to the university was for that same reason: that is, I wanted to wait until after I heard from the commission. However, I think some universities require acceptance into a program before you can be awarded. Anyways, I hope we hear next week. This wait is killing me. And good luck to you too.
  18. Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum. I know it's a little late in the competition but I literally just found out about this forum and got excited that there are people who are in my current situation. I'm currently a Fulbright UK study/research Finalist. Last week, the university I applied to contacted me and said I needed to apply to a program at their university because there was a deadline for confirming to the Fulbright committee that they (the university) are happy with their (Fulbright's) selection. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a good or possibly a bad sign?
