  1. Exactly. To recast this in a slightly different way, none of us are perfect models for what a graduate student should be. There is no such model. Despite the incessant academic careerism of so many prospective graduate students in the humanities (myself included), people should and do pursue graduate study for many reasons. What if he just wants to be able to include PhD on his resume? Or style himself as really really smart? I'm sure that is a motivation, perhaps not the dominant one, for many of us.
  2. Do you have a geographical concentration? If it includes the Americas you might take a look at NYU's American Studies Program. It is home to a number of very interesting queer theory types. Ignoring specific regional concentrations, Rhetoric at Berkeley and History of Consciousness at Santa Cruz might also fit the bill. Finally, check out Feminist Studies at Minnesota.
  3. Thanks! I focus on the 20th century history of sexuality.
  4. Thanks! I am! And good luck to everyone.
  5. It's me. I suspect they didn't call because I am not in the States. Or maybe that's how it's gonna be done this year. Either way, this is very exciting.
  6. I'm also an Americanist, and likewise have yet to hear anything from University of Washington. Perhaps they are still deliberating... Similarly, I've noticed that none of the Chicago admits on the board are Americanists. I (naively) hope that they are still deciding.
  7. My potential adviser got in touch with me about a week after my admittance, but I haven't received any of the promised info on funding or visiting. On the bright side (or, what I tell myself when the wait puts me on edge): we are very fortunate to be waiting to find out how much funding, rather than if we will receive it at all. And congrats for the acceptance!
  8. Are there any Americanists among the Chicago admits?
  9. Especially eager to hear from Yale (American Studies) and Chicago. I'm pretty sure Chicago's decision will come last.
  10. queers
