Yale, Brown, BU, Albany *(that one I have other issues with still) - So all those seem to have sent out acceptances - but my portal hasnt changed at all. Do we know if this means rejections, or if it may still mean a waitlist? Stony Brook, Amherst, BC - Still not out Brandeis and Northeastern - still not out but they arent sociology programs.

I am the Uconn acceptance. Yes, I'm very sure I'm in and it's for sociology. I received a congrats email from me POI, and from the dept. I also got my official offer in the mail late last week as well now with my funding info as well. All of my letters say that 8 of us were accepted, and I know of one other person who was also accepted... I think it's very safe to say those 8 acceptances are all out now both in hard copy and email. However, my letter also mentions a wait list... but I do not know if those people know they are waitlisted yet....

Which are we expecting this week?

I really hope for Northeastern maybe next week ?

I know, thats why I havent contacted the dept, yet. The issue isn't with the dept. anyway, it's the actual graduate admissions.

SO annoying this happened. Even if they refund the app fee , I'll still be out the money i paid for GRE scores to be sent and my transcripts internationally mailed.

Ya the whole thing is so odd. I really want to know what happened. The graduate admissions I don't think will refund, I have not asked specifically yet, but the way they won't say if it went thru or not kinda makes it hard admit I deserve my money back right? This whole thing is so stupid. It would have been better to just get a straight up rejection than be dealing with this situation. Thanks! Any other opinions on this are very welcome... I have no idea what the normal protocol for this type of thing is..

Maybe more of an inquiry email than a call to the dept.? Just kinda of a hey this happened and I'm confused, can you tell me what happened to my application and what that means for my status please?

Ya, I don't want to come across as a complainer in case I want something from them in the future, and I''m thinking no good is really going to coem of it since I doubt they'de admit me or something even if they liked me now... but honestly this is pretty unacceptable right?

Still not sure, haven't wanted to escalate to the dept. yet, but considering it. The graduate admissions overall wasn't helpful and didn't seem to know what to say. They didn't say it wasn't passed on earlier but they also won't say it was. I think they're covering honestly.

Any word on Northeastern anyone?

Well this is depressing... Guess that leaves me with 5 left to hear from. BC and Umass Amherst have been pretty silent . Anyone know anything?

Thanks, I'm so disappointed about this. And my anger about it is growing since I can't even get in touch with them to clarify it at all. That would be nice of course, but doesn't get rid of the fact this sucks and shouldnt have happened at all.

Thanks, it's just so disappointing and frustrating. I had looked at my online portal and everything looked fine at the deadline, it all said submitted and had the check marks. I mean there's always the chance I would have been rejected anyway of course, but now I have the what if at the back of my mind which is annoying. It's so much better to just know concretely you weren't accepted than to wonder if it's because someone messed up in the process.

I think the school is possibly shut down from the storm since no one is picking up the phone. I'm trying not to panic til I hear for sure what happened, but that's difficult considering acceptances are already out. I just think I deserved a fair chance like everyone else, and honestly even if being put on a waitlist if they do like my application ends up being the result of this that's really not fair because from my side I did what I was responsible for doing. I know sometimes mistakes get made, but we're talking about the next 5+ years of my life here, and the foundation for my future career. Even an apology doesn't exactly make-up for for taking away my chance to get in (one I worked hard on the application for and paid for). Realistically waiting around another year isn't a viable option for me, and transferring is very rarely encouraged. Idk if I would have gotten in or not had I been considered with everyone else. But, I should have been fairly considered like everyone else.

I was thinking of calling and asking for clarification about the email. But I just talked to two other people who also applied there and found out both of them got this particular email before the deadline, a few days after they submitted everything (within a day of when I also turned mine in), so it doesn't sound like they were waiting on all applications to pass them on and send the email. One of these applicants was accepted and has said that their POI told them all decisions are already made and acceptances sent.... so it doesn't look good for having even a chance now. Should I be speaking to just the graduate center overall or be addressing it with the department so they are also aware of the situation?

So I'm frustrated now... and not sure how to deal with this. Albany just sent me a generic email this morning saying my application was complete and JUST NOW being passed onto the department. Um they've already sent out their acceptances, so that means they never even looked at mine?! And yes, I submitted my application a few days even before the due date, and when I check the portal, all the extra materials are recorded as having been received by them before the due date. So basically they sat on my application and didn't pass it on even though from my side everything was in, and I wasted money on an application that never even got read? I'm really mad about this since I feel like I had a good shot at getting in as well and really wanted to go there.... and I didn't even get a fair chance to be reviewed because their processing somehow took nearly a month.

If you applied in New England, I wouldn't be holding my breath to hear much tomorrow. Most of MA, CT, NH, and some of NY is closing because of the snow storm.

Good to know! I have my UCONN acceptance, but nothing else officially. The lack of BU, Albany, and Brown communication is telling though. Brown broke my heart a bit

I have a few of these going on with 4 schools leaving me hanging with no portal change even though other people were told last week either way.
