  1. Ugh two of mine are in there, and I'm nervous. I hate when they don't send all the letters at once... it just makes you feel worse once everyone gets acceptances and you have nothing at all.
  2. This is my only Poli Sci one, the rest are public policy or sociology. I'm waiting on Northeastern, Yale, Brandeis, Brown, BU, BC, Umass Amherst, U at Albany, CUNY still and debating about putting a Umass Boston one in this weekend.
  3. In Poli Sci? I'm starting to think we probably applied to the same programs mostly lol
  4. Vulnerable population research mostly in a Middle Eastern context. Women, children's issues, refugees, ect.
  5. Oh helllo! Glad to meet someone else who is accepted there too! mine was like that too. What area do you work in?
  6. If I didn't already have the acceptance I for sure would be applying. I just don't know if for personal reasons I wouldn't take it over my current offer anyway. If I for sure wouldn't then no point in wasting the money. If I come to the conclusion I would actually pick it over this offer if I met the staff and were blown away by them, then I will apply. I guess I have the weekend to figure this out.
  7. Yes, I should look more into that before deciding. It's such a hard thing when you feel like a school is a very good fit, but it would mean being living away from a spouse at least half the week. And maybe for the first years it wouldn't be that bad, we certainly have dealt with separation alot due to the nature of his jobs already. But I wonder if after those first few years if I would regret it. I know I would be applying for sure right now if it was closer, and while some of my other schools are actually in the same city already, I just wonder if I really want to give myself another potential pull to do that. I think I'm going to take the weekend to think about it long and hard and decide by Monday, which would still be plenty of time for my app to be there.
  8. I have 10 out now, 1 acceptance and nothing heard at all from the other 9. By the time I pay fees for everything that needs to be sent i'm looking about about another 150 to just apply. apply. And your right about not knowing without talking to the profs. However I do think it would be a good fit based on their profiles, but I'm not sure what field is "better" overall to have a degree in. The location of this one also means I'll be commuting at least an additional 2+ hours a day in comparison with my current offer to live with my husband, or I would need to live separate from him like half the weekdays. He has encouraged me to pick based on fit, not distance though. This other program on average also takes 1-2 years less time though than my current offer will.
  9. Well it's been in the plan for a few years now, and booked for a year, so the timing just kind of happened like this. I would prefer not to miss orientation, but there's nothing we could do without losing thousands, So I'm just going to have to work it out with my dept. and enjoy Thailand! That's my struggle with it... my research is quite cross-discipline... to the point where I've been applying to 3 different subjects entirely based on where the faculty is that I should be working with for a best fit. This is what people in my field have told me to do because every school classifies what I do a bit differently. The program I have yet to apply to to is actually a different field then my current offer. It would be my top choice for that field... but I'm not sure if I want that field over my current offer field.
  10. i was actually planning to send another app out today or this weekend. But, now I'm really not sure if I should or not since I have an acceptance. It's alot of money for an application fee, and idk if I would pick that program or not over my current offer if the funding was the same.
  11. I'm making up for it now trust me. I can't stop checking my email, even though I know it won't be likely till the endish of Feb or early March on the rest. Plus I've been distracting myself with wedding plans, I'm getting married and then honeymooning right up to the start of next year... so that should make an exciting start for where ever I end up going. Everything has been booked for a bout a year, so we can't move anything, so it looks like honeymooning until 2 days before alot of the programs start classes. Yikes, hopefully the dept. are willing to work something out with me about missing orientation.
  12. Before I unexpectedly got the UCONN info yesterday I was doing such a good job of not being an email stalker or freaking out. I really thought based on my programs histories, that it would be another 2-3 weeks min. before I heard anything. I was also really convinced my GRE might be too low to get in anywhere, so I was thinking no news is better than bad news. But now that I know about this one I can't stop obsessing about hearing from the rest!
  13. SO was that a no on anyone hearing from Northeastern at all?
  14. I think thats pretty much when all mine normally come out. It's hard to wait and wonder on nine when I now actually heard from one.
  15. Thank you, I was surprised to hear this early. I'm waiting on 9 others, a few the same as you I think - Yale and CUNY
  16. That's all mine says as well still. I think the email is unofficial, since it says the official stuff will come in the mail.
  17. Just wanted to claim the UCONN acceptance on the results page. Just got a really nice email from the dept. a few hours ago. Anyone else hear from the today? My letter said they only took 8 of us. I have full funding will a tuition waiver and 20 hour a week contract with the dept... more info to come in the mail. This is my first school out of ten to hear back from so WOW!
  18. I talked to admissions about this and basically it sounds like you can try for an internship more related to an international topic... But the internship is during the school year so it's not like you can be in DC or ny for a international internship. I guess you can also use your 4 electives to take more relevant classes, but the 8 core classes won't really be outside domestic topics. Anyone have advice?
  19. The city is really really nice there. Another thing to think about too is depending on what exactly the field is doing the European degree very cheaply, then if you want to have more acceptance in the US would be to do a one year program after or a certificate program in a specialization in the US afterward ( which is way cheaper than a normal degree) to give yourself a more competitivate edge and show future employers that you have experience working in both environments.
  20. I lived in Europe for 4 years, going to Uni for undergrad there. Having come back to the us now with a European degree what I can tell you is that if you want to end up in academia or do research after living in the US, Then go to school in the US, it will be a huge uphill battle to get back into the US research area respectably if your grad degree is European. However if you want to work abroad or get a job after outside of research and universities, then Europe normally is not a bad thing for a degree to work in the public or industry sector after. The school you got into is pretty well respected there by Europeans and international corporations who are based in Europe.
