  1. Transferring is not really unusual or terribly frowned upon. While your program would probably prefer that you stay, it will, in all likelihood, understand your choice to transfer. People transfer for all sorts of reasons (a POI leaves, they learn that the program wasn't what they expected it to be, etc.). In fact, I do know several assistant professors who transferred when they were grad students (they got their M.A.s at the program, and then just applied to different PhD programs).
  2. Congrats on your acceptance. Based on my own experiences, I found that emailing the director of graduate admissions was pretty helpful for getting this info. They are usually quite open about placement stats once they've accepted you.
  3. Yes, talking to professors is incredibly helpful. I'd also add that you might want to talk to your TAs (if you have them); they have just been through this application process, and probably know some helpful stuff. Also, maybe try to take a few grad-level classes if that's allowed. I found that was a great way to just get a taste of what kind of work was expected at the graduate level. This way you won't be completely shocked or anything once you do enter grad school.
  4. If you don't have a MA already, you have to apply to the MA program. But once you are at UIUC and earn the MA, you will probably be admitted to the PhD program. This is why people who are admitted with a BA are offered 7 years of funding. Hope that helps!
  5. Try not to worry. Those little things probably won't be the reason you are rejected/accepted.
  6. Is that for UIUC? Well, they did contact me pretty heavily once I was accepted last year. So maybe it's for a purpose
