YAY! Congratulations!!

HOORAY!!!!! I JUST GOT BUMPED UP FROM ALTERNATE TO P FOR RESEARCH GRANT IN PANAMA!!! Yay! Thanks for all the support everyone! Is there a Facebook page for the Americas yet?

Urgh. I also have a tiny sliver of hope left... last time I spoke to my program officer she said that they try to give people bad news asap as well as good news so we can go on with our lives. So.... no news means there is still hope

Just heard someone who was an alternate to Singapore for a research grant got bumped up yesterday! Still hope...

Hmm, I'm not sure. Maybe she is for a different program...

Her info was on my letter telling me I am an alternate... Anna Valiante is her name. Are you an alternate too?

For anyone still waiting on the Americas (alternates...) I talked to the program director yesterday. She said that within the next 2 weeks they will finalize all of the offers based on any new funding available, and responses from a few P who still haven't gotten back to her. However, she didn't seem very hopeful that many alternates would make it through this year. She recommended that we start thinking about applying again next year, because if we were alternates, then we were ranked very highly.... She suggested getting in touch with her for help reworking previous applications. Oh well. Another year seems like a very long time to wait. Who knows what else might happen in the meantime

Are my Panama people still out there? Other alternates? Any word? Speaking of Panama, what about the other Western Hemisphere people? I am dying to hear something! Waiting sucks.

I am an alternate for Panama, too! Yikes. I asked the program manager and they basically said they can't say from year to year what the chances are. It seems very much up to chance! I am crossing my fingers for us both. I assume I would just get an email, but who knows...

The program officer said that there might be additional fund coming in mid-April, which would allow them to accept some people off the alternate list...(!)

Anybody else out there an alternate? Any new information yet? I was told there might be some new info for alternates in April...
